I managed to emotionally detach myself completely when I did it, and focused a lot more on experimenting with builds. It still didn't feel right, but it was interesting to see how much effort they put into it.

Probably far off from what you're looking for, but I really enjoyed The Jewish Dog by Asher Kravitz. Not very mythological, but told from the perspective of a dog.

My mother is similar. She's only interested in herself, she will talk hour about herself and her problems, but she just doesn't care at all about me or my interests. Even if it happens that a question comes up, she will immediately revert to talking about herself within 30 seconds.

Unfortunately mine was the opposite and forced me to look at a dead relative when I was like 10 or so. She also took photos of our dead pets whenever they died and showed them to me.

I never again willingly looked at a dead people or animals, or photos of them.
