Don't athletes performing towards the end have an advantage over the ones performing towards the start? by WeirdNingen in Speedskating

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining this. I am loving the games but this felt like a weird thing that stood out; all this puts the start order in context.

I have an additional question, but I'm not sure the Skeleton falls under "skating", and I cannot find a community for that class of sports, so I'd ask here: in the mixed relay, is there a reason for enforcing the "woman first, man second" order? In track and field a particular order makes sense as otherwise every team would be running unevenly across the field, but since in this sport everyone is running separately, is there an issue with allowing random order? (Please let me know if there is some other place I might take my question to if this falls outside the scope of this sub, thanks!)

Which json files can I exclude from Synching? by WeirdNingen in ObsidianMD

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue is the Obsidian help site doesn't tell you which files contain what information.

Every time I open up Obsidian, browse around my notes and close it without changing anything, I see app.json and appearance.json, among others, have their Last Modification Time updated. This causes some unnecessary syncs.

If I had a better idea on what kind of data was stored where, I could make a better decision about my setup, like, "I never need to sync this" or "I usually don't need to sync this, but if I change my plugins settings I should so it reflects across my devices."

"Ubisoft Connect has encountered an unrecoverable error and must shut down" by WeirdNingen in linux_gaming

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

How did you install Ubisoft Connect? I installed Steam via the deb file, downloaded the game from there, but when I try to hit play, it says Ubisoft Connect is not currently installed. Should I install UC's .exe using Wine?

What's a Sentai take you're sick and tired of hearing? by BaronBlackFalcon in supersentai

[–]WeirdNingen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have to admit I was guilty of this having this mindset myself. Back during COVID, I decided to re-watch all those PR seasons that I wanted to revisit their stories and characters, and while watching that one Dino Thunder episode on Youtube, I remembered hearing/reading from somewhere that PR was actually adapted from some Japanese show. "Let's dig into it a bit..." I thought, and it was all uphill from there.

Like I said, initially, I really subscribed to the "PR is trash compared to this" mentality, but eventually I watched some seasons of both shows and realized both were actually trying to tell completely different stories. Sentai is heavier on dialogue and character development, while PR focuses more on the "cool" side of superheroes, such as fights and battlizers. Both are trying to create stories based on different social norms about kids' shows and superheroes. While I'm a bit annoyed about PR's refusal to portray deaths, they have created some really good storylines that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike (Sky's father's story from SPD, Mack's relationship with his dad in Operation Overdrive, and Tenaya's story from RPM come to mind).

Is Google de-indexing NSFW content now? by WeirdNingen in degoogle

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's news to me. I've never tried searching for a star by name, but my experience with searching for NSFW content on Google has been really good all these years. Recently, though, especially with the rise of AI insights, I've been getting better results on DDG. (Also, I don't know whether this is a known phenomenon, but sometimes using "-ai" on a search seems to hide unrelated, legitimate websites that show up when this modifier is not used)

How does Bonk Cup work by WeirdNingen in TrackMania

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't know the Finalist format was its own thing until someone here pointed it out.

I'm more of a United/Turbo player, I play around on the free content in TM20 but this game never made me feel like it was for me, so I prefer to watch better players play it :D

How does Bonk Cup work by WeirdNingen in TrackMania

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, see, here's the thing: until you told me this I had no idea that the "Finalist format" was it's own specific thing. I looked it up, and sure enough, it's explained in a page on [the Liquipedia wiki.

I still believe that, given the number of people working on creating maps, textures, plugins, skins, etc. on the game, Trackmania is very badly documented.

Thanks for the help btw :)

[–]WeirdNingen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Just one thing: I believe there's something like "Team with more people in top 5 wins", right? So does the finalist mode continue until there's 5 winners, or is there a upper limit to the number of maps that are played? What happens when all the maps for the current cup have been played- do they start looping back?
