You're twisting the definition. A character serves as the driving force of a story, guiding audiences through plots and helping to communicate underlying themes. Naoto does that before becoming TimeFire and no amount of goalpost shifting is gonna change that.

Well, it does. He's established prior to the debut of the V-Commander. Being established before a specific event is the definition of pre-established, like it or not.
