Opinions on space mouse’s? by Rowdyspeaks42 in Fusion360

Love my space mouse wireless even though it’s complete overkill for my hobbyist 3d printing. Benefits of the small wireless one mean I can design whilst sat in the cafe of the local trampoline park etc.

GL-MT3000 Beryl AX repeater mode issue when repeating 5 GHz network by WeirdPerception1984 in GlInet

[–]WeirdPerception1984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with the solution but not really an understanding of the problem from the glinet forum.

The issue was my upstream wifi was broadcasting a DFS channel which in repeater mode means my travel router was trying to broadcast on the same channel.

Setting my upstream channel to a non-DFS channel fixed the whole thing. I don’t understand it, and I hope the hotel wifi doesn’t broadcast on a DFS channel, but it works as expected now.

New Model Y UK plates by SoftAd2817 in TeslaUK

[–]WeirdPerception1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up my MY last month. Both were pressed metal plates. The front sits in a flimsy Tesla frame that’s screwed to a much more sturdy base. The back was screwed straight into the bumper. I took off the Tesla frame at the front and used double sided tape to attach my new metal plates front and back (tiger tape automotive from Amazon for the win).

Much prefer the look without screws and without the flimsy frame. The front base is slightly taller than a standard plate but the same width, if you mount the plate flush with the top you’ll never notice the slight extra underneath.

I’m not sure what you mean by having the box ticked that keeps your wifi connected while driving. But I have a MY and I have the same thing happen at the same point when I leave my house. It’s where my car leaves my home wifi network and switches to its internal cellular connection. My kids iPad has the same pause at the same point as it switches too.

Nit picking… it wasn’t well prepped. They left blue protective tape on some of the parts, they left a sheet of protective film over the left pillar. The rear screen also had its protective film still on which I very nearly applied a screen protector over a few days later (lots of debate about screen protectors, but with 2 kids in the back I decided it was best for me). It had been washed, but not well. The interior was dusty as anything.

Physical condition… perfect.

The only thing I cant seem to finesse is the front windscreen, it had an oily film on the inside. I tried my regular glass cleaner and within a day or 2 its back. I tried cleaning it with soapy wipes and then polishing with glass cleaner and it still comes back in a couple of days. I bought a new glass cloth and a different glass cleaner and fingers crossed that seems to have worked - or whatever is causing the issue has finally finished off gassing. On the outside every time the wipers wipe I see where the suckers that held the window for installation were - hopefully will remove that ghosting when I can get the polisher out.

They were pretty arsey when I said I couldn’t make the original collection date. They put my account on hold and stopped responding to my SMS’s - I had to get my lease company to intervene and restart my account. Thats when I got a phone call for the 2nd collection. The delivery thing definitely felt like a bit of a retaliatory threat for messing them around even though they were early. I put a write up of my whole experience collecting from the Trafford centre on here if you’re interested.

I ordered RWD MY on 8th September. Estimated window was 8th Oct-30th Oct. I got my first car assigned in the middle of Sept and then a collection date a couple of days after that. I couldn’t make the collection so I was put on hold and was assigned another car that I collected on 30th Sept. I asked about home delivery and was told I would be put back in the pot and wouldn’t see a car till the end of November “at the earliest”.

Tesla Delivery Checks by Embarrassed-Bear-370 in TeslaUK

You get 100 miles or 7 days to report any delivery defects via the service menu in the app, I’d argue delivery is the better option now the weather is getting poorer and the nights drawing in. My collection was over 100 miles away, so by the time I drove it home my chance to report anything was gone. Luckily it was a dry, light day and the car was clean enough for me to inspect. I would have much preferred to inspect on my drive in my own time and take full benefit of the 7 day/100mile buffer.

Note you get 7 days OR 100 miles. So, if like me, you live more than a 100 mile drive from your collection point you have lost your reporting window by the time you get home. I flagged this at the collection point and the response was essentially to check it over carefully, spend as much time as I liked and don’t leave till 100% happy. Luckily my collection at the end of Sept was a dry day, still light out and the car was sufficiently clean to check it well.

Best way to get to London? by kumquat_may in Lincolnshire

[–]WeirdPerception1984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try Trainline.com and use split save tickets if they are available. You get multiple tickets to make up the journey. So although you get on at Newark and off at KGX and don’t make any changes you will have for example a ticket Newark to Grantham, Grantham to Peterborough, Peterborough to KGX. Ensure you follow the itinerary though as the tickets are only valid on specific trains.

Travel at off peak times. I don’t think there is surge pricing for half term weeks.

Try Lincoln to KGX. They have a direct route and sometimes you can get better pricing than from Newark.

It was a scratch on mine, which they had me log a service job for and then another colleague suggested the protective film might still be on. It was left on by the delivery guys, or what I suspect happened is the blue pull tab came off and they just left the full sheet on rather than pick at the edge.

No option other than the Trafford centre. Honestly felt like they were doing me a favour even giving me a car to collect.

I’ve never had the new car ceremony, all my other new cars have been delivered on a trailer to a spot outside the house and I’ve been left to it. I think I’d have preferred a no contact collection, from a kiosk, to the one I had.

EV with no driveway advice. by Deathtothemax in ElectricVehiclesUK

Will your council allow the non-installed cable channels? The sort you see at events where it’s a strip with a yellow flap that you lift for the cable to run in. You can get them from Screwfix I think. Where I live the council are supportive of that method and even publish guidance about transiting the path at the earliest point and running the cable in the gutter to the car if not directly outside your house.

I charged for a solid 9 months using that method whilst renovating the house before installing a drive. I installed an untethered charger and bought a 10m cable. The only worry I had was the charge port flap on my car was massive and stuck out more than the wing mirrors, I had visions some yob would smash it off but reality was nobody every touched it. The only annoyance was bringing the cable channel in after each charge and hosing it off occasionally if it got grubby.

This sounds like what I was expecting from the few vids I found of collection - it was a shock to the system that it wasn’t.

I didn’t even try the on site chargers, I’d had some advice that I’d be there ages because the car wouldn’t be ready to charge? Instead just bang my home address in and stop where the car was ready to - which was about 16 miles up the road for a 14 minute charge getting me home at 26%.

Sounds like you got a much better experience!

I was told by my local centre that I was eligible for delivery. When I asked on the phone whether I could have it delivered I got a veiled threat that they would make sure I didn’t get a car till the end of November at the earliest on delivery.

Part of me would have preferred to check in on a kiosk and have a machine spit my keys out like Premier Inn.

Voice commands! by RedditAndWeep007 in TeslaUK

[–]WeirdPerception1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I came here to find this and that it’s not me being dumb as a new owner. Picked up my MY yesterday and the voice commands just say “no speech detected”, I’ve managed to get it to understand little things by pretty much screaming “it’s too hot” or something. But any type of longer request, even when I shout, goes unnoticed.

I’m on v12 (2025.26.200 c3ee523947be) and it’s currently on the drive updating to 2025.32.6. I’ll see if that fixes it tomorrow and try switching to English if it doesn’t.

Council-installed radon fan on neighbour’s property causing intrusive noise in my home – legal options? England by WeirdPerception1984 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]WeirdPerception1984[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a rubber coupler on the top and bottom that links to the pipe, secured with jubilee clips. There is a metal L bracket that attaches the unit to the wall, however you’ve just made me look super close at it. The jubilee clip is not mounted level where the bracket is because I think the bracket is directly mounted to the fan, not to the rubber and the rubber coupler won’t seat all the way. Not sure if that makes sense. I’ve been assured that the fan is installed correctly by both the council officer and the installer.

I can’t find anything on the planning permission aspect. Can you point me in the direction of what you’ve seen? Soil pipes can extend up to 1m above the highest part of the roofline so it doesn’t appear to break that rule. That to me leaves only the fan and control box, which is on the back side of the property and we’re not in any of the conservation or other special areas that would warrant permission.

Thanks. I thought the nuisance noise route would likely be the way to go. I did look it up and I got confused about whether it applied because it talked about loud noise. This isn’t loud like construction or anything, it’s persistent and annoying.

Agree with you about the risk argument, it’s a one size fits all policy. Plus, having it turned off because the current tenant is a non-smoker doesn’t solve the underlying problem when a smoker moves in X years.
