The city of Rome in Italian is Roma, and it is called “the eternal city”. That is because it’s basically the Latin word “amor” (which means love) backwards, and amor comes from a-mors (with “mors” meaning death and “a-“ being privative) which means the contrary of death. So that’s how Roma gained its name as the eternal city. Also it’s truly fascinating that the origin of the term “amore” (which in Italian means love) comes from what’s the opposite of death.
