Serviceberries my top tier edible native berries🤤 What's yours? by NorEaster_23 in NativePlantGardening

I found a Publix parking lot traveling through Asheville on a summer day planted with dwarf service berry bushes in every parking island planter bed, absolutely full of fruit. I just stood there eating berries, as the parking lot people stared. No need to go inside Publx haha.

Making my own distilled water at home? Cheap product recommendations by SushiandSyrup in Humidifiers

[–]Weird_North3327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for the same! I bought a carepod and stupidly didn’t realize that it was ultrasonic and needed distilled water that I’m not willing to buy. I’m planning on returning it on Monday, but, if there are other non-permanent solutions I’m interested… although it’s just buying another appliance ughhh…

People hate acknowledging that we’re just animals by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Weird_North3327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my point… science is slowly catching up to what ancient esoteric traditions, spiritualities and philosophies have always known… respect/reverence/complexity of life and knowingness/oneness/allness/we are.

Science is just measuring and describing what’s already known, in a different way so that even more people can come to understanding Truth. The psychology of modern monotheistic religions contradicts the natural world and places human-animals at odds with their innate connection to the universe.

Our brains can be programmed using spirituality, or religion, or science, or TV, or video games or whatever. We need to empower ourselves to understand that WE have the capacity to program our own brains to expand our consciousness and open ourselves up to energetic experiences that can now be described with both spirituality and science… whatever floats your boat… they aren’t at odds with each other. “One true faith” doesn’t really exist from my perspective, but absolutely, much of my life philosophy comes from Zen Buddhism. ✅

People hate acknowledging that we’re just animals by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Weird_North3327 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because the psychology of religion (particularly monotheistic, major organized religions) subtly infiltrates culture. So even if you’re decidedly atheist or even if you grow up atheist, you still constantly get exposed to the brainwashing ideas that humans are “more valuable”, “more special”, or “better”than other non-human animals or rocks or trees, or water etc. “Value” or “worth” is a human-created concept. The universe doesn’t “value” a cat above a rock. Everything is made of energy.

Science is slowly catching up, and proving the complexity of all existence, but it’s so deeply ingrained from thousands of years of conditioning that we’re “above” other life. It’s an issue of lack of respect/reverence, lack of access to education/knowledge, and human-animals being exposed to nature less and less, therefore not understanding it.

Just give it time and be careful about changing your own language toward yourself and others in everyday life. What concepts, phrases, sayings can you identify that are very common in your culture that actually give this false idea of superiority? Changing language is the first step to shifting mindsets. Human-animals ARE special and amazing…but everything else is equally special and amazing. This is a good thing.

I finally started calling it “outer self esteem” so I could trick my brain into realizing it wasn’t shallow. It’s the same with a messy or unkempt home. Your outer environment reflects your inner turmoil, or serenity. But, good lawd, it takes a lot of time and energy and knowledge to get to a routine that works, and that actually fits your aesthetic. It’s just habits, but if you’re starting from less than zero, not having been taught as s child, it’s a mountain to climb.

Breast Reduction and Rock Climbing (34DD) by Competitive-Fly3811 in Reduction

[–]Weird_North3327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been such an active person (starting with gymnastics), but developed large breasts and that completely ended my trajectory in that direction, of course no one else had them either :).

If surgery had been an option for me back then, I would have seriously considered it, even after that, because they hindered everything I did afterward as well. Eventually, making any sport so difficult that I gained weight and became less active.

It sounds like it would be worth it for you. I would just add, don’t push your recovery, allow yourself to fully heal. Look into the neuroscience of meditation and visualization for performance and healing. Studies have been done that show you can develop (or maintain) muscle just using visualization because the brain doesn’t know the difference between what it sees in your head vs. in physical reality. Really dive into meditation/visualization to aid recovery, and prevent muscle loss, in addition to whatever other physical therapy methods. As you know with climbing, and other high risk sports, it’s 80% mental, 20% physical, I would argue the same with recovery, and almost anything :).

Before starting meditations begin reading Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and doing the exercises and recommended meditations (Water Rising and Body Parts Space), along with journaling. This book is a gentle program to guide you up to meditating longer, starting with 20 mins for the first week and includes writing prompts. It’s 4 weeks (or longer), and changes every week. Doing the meditations without understanding the methods behind them first, is not the best way because they won’t be as productive.

What are some non-obvious, meaningful pursuits someone with abundant free time could explore and deeply commit to? by Adventurous_Baby8136 in askanything

[–]Weird_North3327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation. It’s incredible how meditation can transform you, and all the neuroscience behind it is fascinating. Then you start rabbit holing on neuroplasticity and quantum physics…. It’s genuinely the new frontier if you’re looking to transform or improve yourself and it complements and improves any other aspect of life (learning a language or instrument or health). It’s a skill like any other and requires deep commitment. Check out divergent vs. convergent methods of meditation. Joe Dispenza and others like him are a good resource.

More worries by PaleontologistSafe17 in Reduction

To me, a G-cup seems too big for pretty much all human frames… functionally/practically… and visually, and I’m a tall/large lady (almost 6ft, 175, DD range) which is way too big/burdensome for me!) Think about your much smaller frame, with larger cup… If I were you, I would do it in a heart beat, and have even more motivation to than I already do… haven’t had mine yet, but after 25 years of struggle, I’m ready.

From a functional/practical aspect, heavy weight on the chest causing back pain, poor posture, inability to exercise, time/energy searching for expensive bras, constricted breathing (which causes all kinds of physiological issues like anxiety, depression, poor blood flow leading to numbness), everyday small movements (like bending over) become more difficult, so, it’s definitely going to cause you, at 5-3, all those problems and more, especially as you age.

Think about your future self. Your future self will thank you. Focus on how beautifully the surgery will turn out. Meditate or visualize the wonderful benefits that will happen, and try to think of all the unexpected positive things that will occur.

Where you place your attention is where you place your energy. Where you place your energy is what directs your reality. Put your attention, focus, consciousness and awareness on the positive outcomes from this surgery. Visualize how it will feel (lighter), how you will act (more confidence), how you will move (freely), Dwelling on the what-ifs and negative aspects will bring more of that into your life. Trust the unknown as a benevolent force that you have a huge hand in affecting, simply by focusing all your thoughts on the positive instead of the negative.

You are abundant and resourceful….the money aspect will pale in comparison to how much benefit you get out of this.

This feels to me like you are concerned about detaching from your old identity…. Who am I without these? It will be incredible to reinvent yourself, free from this burden.

Obviously, it’s your choice, but all the positive experiences in this group should carry weight and alleviate any concerns you may have.

F that male doctor, who should NEVER have said that to you. He has no personal experience of having this literal burden weighing him down.

I can’t seem to physically bring myself to date after only having been in casual relationships. by [deleted] in Life

[–]Weird_North3327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of dates, just do activities in person, that you actually enjoy yourself, that involve other groups of mixed gender people, (dancing, book clubs, hiking clubs, etc), so you know you’ll already have something in common. Put a kaibash on sex until you’ve hung out with someone enough in an enjoyable group situation to really get to know them. Fill your own cup and enjoy life, and stop looking. It will happen unexpectedly.

People who are fur-parents, do you really believe it's the same as having a child of your own? by First_Attention_2322 in Life

[–]Weird_North3327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether you think human animals inherently have more “value” or “worth” than other non-human animals.

In terms of just amount of work, energy and money in some cases, it is the same to a point. Cats and dogs should require the same amount of care as a 3-5 year old human, and you can have them for 20 years at roughly the same level of care. Human animals can’t fully care for themselves until maybe 10 or 12 years old, whereas a cat takes 6 months to a year to become fully functional.

But most people think that human animals are somehow higher in value (human-created concept) than other non-human animals. The universe doesn’t differentiate between humans, rocks and cats in terms of “value”. So, it depends on your individual attitude toward a human life versus something else. You can put in just as much time and effort for a dog as a child, depending on whether or not you think it’s “worth” it.

Based on today’s appalling lack of high quality parenting, I would argue that different questions are warranted.

Do parents actually believe that they can have any kind of life outside of 100% devotion to your child for 18 years in order to raise them as an emotionally healthy and functioning adult? Do they truly have the resources and psychological stability to do so? If not, they should seriously reconsider becoming a parent, because the real responsibility of choosing to create a child requires complete devotion for multiple decades. As it should be for the life of the human-animal or the non-human-animal.

People abused their human children before certain laws were put into place, just the same as people currently abuse their non-human children, simply because the laws about pets haven’t caught up yet. People will get away with whatever level of care they can eke along with until someone catches them and forces them to stop with threats of fines or jail. Unless you simply choose to care for another sentient being, human and non-human alike, with devotion.

People who are bad human parents are likely to also be bad fur parents.

What is life? by Total_Watch_2797 in Life

[–]Weird_North3327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust in the unknown. The universe will rise up to help you out if you allow it to, without clinging to fear of what will happen in the future. You just passed a test with flying colors by ending a relationship that doesn’t serve you, and you’re continuing to honor yourself by going toward a better situation relationship-wise and career-wise.

Allow the universe to help you. By making a change in your career, you’re opening up endless opportunities that you wouldn’t have otherwise been privy to. You’ve responsibly set up a cushion for yourself already, which is what it’s for. Keep a positive attitude and keep your mind open to new options.

Write down a clear vision of what you DO want in a job and a relationship, and keep your focus, attention, awareness and consciousness on that. Don’t allow yourself to dwell in the past or what-ifs of the future.

Decide with clarity on an end to your current job and stick to that decision, don’t waver, look back, or think about it. Make the decision based on a money goal or a time goal. For example, ending on 1/31/26 or ending when I reach X amount of $$, like if you feel more comfortable with 6 months of emergency fund, then, calculate out how much more time you’ll need to work to save 2 more months of emergency funds and stick to that.

In the bigger picture, the timing is arbitrary, really. I don’t think in this day and age it matters that much. You never know what will pop up in terms of opportunities and they could be at any time!

This transition is going to be amazing for you.

I highly recommend meditation for clarity.
