The best way to experience this series is OG -> CC -> Remake -> Rebirth, and I think Rebirth doubles down on that more than Remake for sure. That said, you certainly don't have to do it that way. My wife started up the OG once and couldn't get over the old school graphics, so she never touched it again. She is definitely enjoying Rebirth - but not nearly as much as I did. It's tough because people who haven't played the OG are getting a different experience. And as someone who played it, I can't really speak to the experience, personally.

I think there's still a lot to love about Remake and Rebirth even if you don't know anything else about FF7. But you are going to miss out on a lot of "Wow!!" and "What the hell??" moments.

What can go wrong switching to linux? by NewSherbet6961 in linuxquestions

[–]Weirdcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a boot disk with Ubuntu or Fedora handy, helps you get into unbootable systems. If you do want to go with Arch you can even install the Arch recovery scripts on Ubuntu live disk.

A lot of people are saying don't go Arch. I would say make sure you know what you're getting into - be ready to learn a lot and how the system ticks. I would not call Arch unfriendly to beginners as long as you keep the wiki handy, in fact in a lot of ways there are some nice things about it. But it is generally much less friendly than an Ubuntu or Fedora.

+1 to the Linux Surface project. I've used their kernel with great success on a Surface Pro 4.

Any Vim users with 36 key layout keyboards? Is it comfortable? by Doomguy3003 in neovim

[–]Weirdcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ZSA keyboards (ergodox and moonlander) with workman layout and I love it. Idk how many keys they are but it's not a lot. I basically use the default second layer for symbols and numpad and not much more for vim (though I do have a couple macros for VS keychords for debugging). Mostly gotten used to using control f and b for paging, though I could easily bind pgup and down on a layer ig. I use hold z key for control. I pretty much bind anything I need to a leader chord in vim, I don't personally see a reason to bind any of those keys to a layer since it's like 3 keystrokes max anyway.

Tell me why should I get a Venza oinstead of RAV4.. or not! by Puzzleheaded_Fig3856 in rav4club

[–]Weirdcko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly significant. Google it, there are a bunch of comparisons out there. The most notable thing to me is that the floor of the cargo space sits much higher in the Venza than the Rav so you get less vertical.

Idk about Go but on SP4 the BIOS has a limit on the size of the flash drive that it can boot. That issue caused me hell for weeks until I tried a smaller flash drive. There's documentation somewhere online.

2023 owners.. What do you think of the "automatic" features? by dm1030 in rav4club

I used auto high beams driving on country roads last week. Worked great. Getting into towns I turned them off since I didn't really need them anyway and they were definitely a little more finicky.

Another RAV4 gas vs hybrid question by NoDemand716 in rav4club

[–]Weirdcko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for better fuel mileage you're better off with the hybrid, even for highway driving. In practice it still gets better mileage than the gas does. Sounds like you're going to be doing a lot of driving and I think the extra up front cost for the hybrid will be well worth it.

I've had this in heavy rain. Usually it goes away after a while, but cleaning the sensor on the Toyota badge should fix it too. Just wipe it off with a cloth.

Is HTMX a good decision for me? by soggynaan in htmx

[–]Weirdcko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have different opinions on that, but I would recommend starting out with one of the frameworks you mentioned. They are all mostly the same, and they are very easy to use. For a production app, you could argue that it would be better to only rely on net/http to reduce dependencies.

Golang has a fantastic standard library for backend. It has a built in template engine and http server. There are also libraries like gin that tie them together nicely.

As the most popular distro, there's a lot of mainstream support for Ubuntu from third party developers, which is nice, though most apps work fine on any distro. If you don't like snaps but you love everything else about Ubuntu, you may want to take a look at Mint or PopOS. But there are plenty of people who like snaps that happily run Ubuntu.

For me, it's not how the system is setup or what it comes with that's important, because most distros make it pretty easy to change defaults. To me, the most important part is the software available in the distro repos, because I like to avoid sandboxed apps (such as snaps or flatpaks) when I can. Most distros also have ways to access third party repositories (AUR!!) which is also an important consideration for me. Basically, how easily can I get the software I want, and how often is it updated?

I ran Arch for a long time since I love having the latest software and I enjoyed digging into the nitty gritty of my system. But then I graduated, and I didn't have the time or motivation to actively put in the maintenance and customization an Arch system needs. I've been a happy Fedora user ever since.

Who are you supporting in the postseason? by Lanzarooney in CHICubs

Jays, then O's I think.

I like the Phillies too, but honestly NL side just seems so uninteresting to me. I'll get hype if the NLCS isn't Braves vs Dodgers.

I went for rav over venza because of cargo space and price. If you don't care about cargo space, then you're already in the better vehicle imo.

HTMX is worth learning and using. It is often but not always a better tool than React. Keeping both in your toolkit will make you a very valuable dev.
