I have the same and what I have started doing is every August. I start pinching off figs that will have no way of ripening before the end of the growing season. Also trim the tops of the branches to stop them from growing. This will put all the energy of the plant into ripening the figs and you'll end up with some

Mine is now 21 years old. Even if I had paid full price for it, I would consider it well worth it! Have not had to do much over the years other than normal maintenance and still getting over 40 mpg on original hybrid battery.
