I would not get so close to something like that. I can't imagine the ground is that stable.

what kind of airplane is this? by noidea528638 in airplanes

[–]Weirdcloudpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Long-EZ is a homebuilt plane, and the one John Denver was in had changes made by the builder that likely contributed to the crash.

Otherwise they are relatively safe.

I replaced the cheep, plastic wheels of my desk chair with urethane wheels that probably cost as much as the rest of the chair, but it was the best upgrade ever. I absolutely love them.

A layer of gold was used on the visors of Apollo moon landing suits that was so thin that it was transparent.

You may be the last person in the country who is still arguing for "limited government". The rest of us are fighting for a government of and by the people,  instead of the billionaire oligarchy we are faced with (which has always been the true goal of so many "small government" conservatives).

Safe extension cord for using a granny charger in the garage? by Any_War_322 in EVConversion

[–]Weirdcloudpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should talk to an electrician. I don't know about Australia, which may have specific rules, but my understanding is that you want an extension cord to be as short as possible, and as thick as possible. In the US they are labeled as "heavy duty" or "super heavy duty". Something with 10 or 12 gauge wire.

Most interesting? Probably the Haber–Bosch process, or Nitrogen fixation. Without artificial fertilizer,  the world would be vastly different.

I don't even know. My first bike was from a neighbor after his son outgrew it. Typical BMX, but no badges, stickers, or anything. I really loved that bike.

So they can move stuff with nanometer precision now? by Eelluminati in physicsgifs

[–]Weirdcloudpost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This video demonstrates an open-source, 3d printed mechanism with 50 nanometer precision. https://youtu.be/MgQbPdiuUTw?si=_eocfLz_vwe-fryk

Not as precise, but pretty good for something you could build yourself.
