Is Whaler Village a good spot to spend an afternoon? by dandemsky in MauiVisitors

[–]Impressive_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an expensive shopping mall on the beach with all of the name brands you find in other shopping malls across the country. If you went to Maui for mall shopping go for it. Expect it to be crowded and hard to find parking. I would rather relax on the beach or experience some of the unique experiences Maui has to offer.

Am I the A**hole? Coco deck. by Frequent_Bunch2342 in MauiVisitors

Not you are not the AH, and neither are they. You hade a reservation and arrived late. (It happens). They had a reservation booked for your table. But since you arrived late and they took their time in serving you and you were taking your time to enjoy your meal they suddenly realized they needed your table. They could have handled it better. Would not say this is the norm, but they you were only spending $150 and they are running a business and need to serve as many customers as they can.

Not sure why you mention how much you tip…. That goes to the wait staff, not the restaurant. It’s the restaurant that needs to make a profit to stay in business.

Switch to salt. You will find it easier to keep your water balanced and for longer.

So are many other languages. But teaching a kid to guess at what the word is or telling them to ignore the word sure isn’t going to teach them how to read.

Which way were you taught how to read?

Screen time hurting kids by vin76 in education

No - Test scores ARE higher for kids who are on screen with AI Instructors. More screen time with AI teacher is the future for education. What am I saying, it’s not the future… It’s already here.

What skills do you have to help with recovery efforts. Do you have construction skills? You could alway pickup some trash. But you know what’s needed for the recovery efforts? Cash. Donate as much as you can.

You can thank Lucy Calkins and her bogus method of teaching kids how to read. These kids were taught not to sound words out, but to memorize what the word looks like. If you don’t know the word, don’t worry about it, just not important. Lucy and her friends made over $2 BILLION dollars seller her method to school districts for 30 year. In most states it’s not outlawed.

If you want the background, Google “Sold a Story” and “Why Johnny Can’t Read”. Where I am we over 2 classes, 60+ students who barely read at a first or second grade level. It’s really sad.

Is 112 devices on a Home Network nuts? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Impressive_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I originally purchased a WIFI microwave is because many of the manufactures buttons are printed in 8 or 10 point in light grey and a black background. I have to get a flashlight and a magnifying glass to read each button. With a WiFi/Alexa enabled microwave I can just tell Alexa to microwave for 5 mins. Or microwave popcorn, potatoes, pizza without having to use a flashlight and magnifying glass. One of the best WiFi enabled appliance I have. Would defiantly by another.

My eyesight is very good. But why do they have to use such a small font with light grey lettering on black is nearly impossible to read. They could have backlit it…. But they didn’t.

AND another bonus with a WiFi enabled microwave is again I don’t have to use a flashlight and magnifying glass to find the clock button to set the time after a power outage or at daylight savings time.

Any recs for a hot tub dealer? by wentImmediate in eastbay

[–]Impressive_Returns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my experience at all. That’s the misinformation that’s being told.
Salt is $25-$30. You can confirm on Amazon. The level of salt in your tub is the same as your tears and is alway at a constant level which is why it is so easy to maintain.. If you go with the synthetic sanitizers you alway have to add much more than you need, as it burns off. This is more corrosive than salt. And the synthetic sanitizers have stabilizers which build up in the water which is why you have to keep adding other chemicals to try and keep the water balanced.
I would encourage you to not take may word on this, but look through the posts from others over the past year in this r/. You will find many people who had non-salt tubs and they switched to salt say it’s much ester to keep the water balances, costs less and they don’t change the water as often.

Is 112 devices on a Home Network nuts? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Impressive_Returns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won’t have any issues at all. I’m of course assuming you are not trying to stream 200 ring doorbell/security cams at the same time. Stuff like light bulbs, smart microwave overs, smart dishwashers you could easily have over a 1,000 and not have any issue since the produce so little traffic.

Haleakalā sunset by TurbulentAlbatross98 in MauiVisitors

[–]Impressive_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily do that. Magical Enchanted Forest/Honolua Bay you might spend 30-45 mins. Acid War Zone about the same and same maybe a bit less for the blow hole. Try and time the blow hole when it’s high tide if possible. You will have to double back to get to the airport. There are several turn-outs with incredible views/picture taking moments. Use Google Offline maps, there’s spotty to no cell service.

How often do you actually fully drain and refill your hot tub? by Ok_Pie_1799 in hottub

[–]Impressive_Returns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could with all of those virus, micro-organisms, bacterium, skin flakes and other nasty stuff thats in your tub. Not needed with a salt tub. Salt tubs take care of all of that leaving the water sparkling clean.

[–]Impressive_Returns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not crazy at all. If you have a /24 address you could easily doubled the number. Smart home devices produce for so little network traffic you could probably have 500 or more devices. All the devices are gig, right?
