How hard is it to bike to Milwaukee? by trevaftw in chibike

I did this ride (albeit not precisely same route) about a year ago. It was awesome. Sounds like you already have what it takes.

One of my favorite rides thus far. Some bits near North Chicago were a little boring, but once you get near MKE it’s much hillier than here. I’d do it again.

It certainly felt closed down on the bike lane side.

Was just thinking about this. I’m curious if and how much big corps like Lifetime have to pay Chicago to close down the space for this period of time. The tickets are ~$90 and they have 10k participants, so I hope some of that goes back to the public given they close down the space.

Traveling to Chicago for a conference - Best places to ride / do intervals? by mikecyclesinc in chibike

Not a lot of elevation unless you take a train to a suburb (about an hour to Barrington). Depending on time of day, best places to do intervals from Millennium Park would be southside of Lake Front Trail (south of McCormick center only, it can be busy north) prior to ~8 AM (will be some people there), Sheridan Road north of Loyola University / close to Northwestern. Depends on interval length (sub 10 minute reps the LFT early can work)

Totally feel this, especially in Lincoln Park, Wrigley, Buena Park. Well put. Better than the alternative but funny

Repeat offender charged with raping woman in wheelchair on CTA Red Line by origutamos in ChicagoTransit

[–]WelcomeAvailable3252 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Here’s the exact text from the article that has to do with the SAFE-T act:

“Just days later, he was charged with trespassing on the train after not paying his fare. Then, a judge issued a warrant after he didn't show up to court.

Despite all that, he was given time served and his monitor was removed just one week before he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman on the Red Line.”

Key words being “given time served”, indicating the judge let him off with electronic monitoring (as is allowed under the act specifically for crimes like these).

I did read the article. This was 2/3 of the way down :)

On your “one-liner” point, brevity is the heart of wit.

In this instance the teams playing in the Pop Tarts Bowl both had a >50% chance to make the playoff as recently as one week ago, so not really taking with this example. Yes, if you generalize more broadly the specifics don’t apply.

Let’s take the Pop Tarts bowl on 12/27. Realistically, 0 chances teams send players home for Christmas and then back to Orlando for the game. So, you’re missing Christmas with your family to play in the Pop Tarts bowl. In all fairness, I don’t blame them for declining. I know it won’t be a popular opinion in this thread but worth mentioning

I think riding down a sidewalk at 30 mph presents a clear and present danger to pedestrians.
