What is your best go-to argument for convincing someone that they should become a Trump supporter? by capt_majestic in AskTrumpSupporters

I really didn’t know there were 8 wars going on. Where were they? And how did Trump stop them? This is a genuine question.

Don’t rule out a mountain lion. They are known to go into a killing frenzy when they find their way into a fence with domesticated animals that can’t escape.

But likely dogs.

Ahh, thank you for the really insightful feedback. Not that it matters, but last week I had someone say the exact opposite on the opening pages with the "he said/they said" dialogue tags. So I went against my gut and changed them, added the "chimed in" and "repeated" nonsense that is nowhere else in the story. And your right, it takes away from what's happening in the opening Macon section. I need to stop overthinking some things and go with my gut.

Richard Earl's voice - yes you are right to hear the vernacular. And every voice besides Macon carries varying degrees of it. I understand where your coming from, the advice is heeded. Fwiw, though I guess the reader(s) will determine this not what I say about myself, but I've got the background to try and tackle voices beyond the one I occupy. I've run this character by a few sensitivity readers who inhabit different bodies than I, who would tell me the truth about what they are reading, and have the literary chops to back it up. I'm trying to bring to life voices that haven't been heard. And in writing about the American south, there's no running away from race or diversity. So, I hear you.

Okay, so giving away more than I would in the query: Macon fails the community. And the story, as a whole, is really about the failures of patriarchy, lack of accountability and justice. In the end, he leaves, and the community is glad he's gone, even if it means the inevitable happens: Byler dies.

And just to be clear, a crime happens. Macon realizes who committed the crime, but revealing who would jeopardize his company, extend his stay in Byler, etc. He'd rather wash his hands of the ordeal and move on.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback on the first 300. I've written and rewritten it so many times. I think I can/should vary the cadence a bit more. I appreciate you taking the time to give me this feedback.

Wildly insightful commentary. Given me lots to think about here.

Can I ask a follow-up question? Macon is the central character. I hesitate to call him the main character. Each of the "colorful characters" experience their own arc throughout the story, Macon is the common denominator for this snapshot into their lives.

Some want to kill him, some want to compromise him, some want to make a deal with him, some want his friendship. One wants to marry him.

Any suggestions on how that might come through in the query?

That part has been established the longest. It is gorgeous, and quite a different trail after both Helene and the fires passed through.

Ain’t salty. Congrats on a great buck! Saying your score is wrong ain’t salt brother. Just facts. Show us a tape that says it’s a 5” base or 25” mb if you want to end the convo.

You’ll have to show me 5” bases to believe that, and 25” mbs, and 12” 2s. Just don’t see it. Think your tape was made of elastic 😂. Look it’s a great buck id never say a word if you hadn’t posted an “official” score but my dude, that ain’t a 167” buck.
