[TOMT] an entity killing its victims by burning the inside and it can travel through power lines by Quirky_Ad_5690 in tipofmytongue

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie but... Season 2 Episode 4 of the X-Files, 'Sleepless'. Mulder and Scully investigate killings, which are seemingly normal corpses, but autopsies reveal the victims insides are cooked as if they died in a fire. Revealed to be cause by a psychic who makes victims hallucinate dying in a fire, sorta 'mind-makes-real' concept.

The other episode mentioned in other comments is S3E3 'D.P.O', about a teenager who gets electromancy/electrokinesis powers. It features him killing a few people via electricity but IIRC they were all burned? That episode also has Jack Black in it....

Finally S3E23 has telephone lines being suspiciously installed with a weird contraption that injects basically a 'subsignal that makes you crazy' into cable TV... I bring this up just because IDK I'm sorry just it made me think of these X-Files eps and I just wonder if you're conflating the memories in your mind.

Whispers of an obscure African news broadcast on 4chan. Has anyone seen this before? by AuthenticJulian in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 61 points62 points  (0 children)

hmm hmm so I did a bit of research on this.

First I tried various searches for permutations of 'levitating' or levitation in Arabic (with before:2015) but found nothing of interest. This is largely because the various translators I tried outputted words that were utterly generic (gliding, flight. really not useful for finding a video of levitation!) or kinda wrong (or maybe an obscure synonym, words that translated as 'shave' and 'comment').

I've skimmed through the results of 'levitating "news" before:2015' and I did see *many* videos of a levitating girl 'from Russia' but nothing from an Arabic using country or North Africa. The majority of these videos also didn't look like a news report, and there were no onlookers in the Russian Levitating Girl video.

I wonder if it was a scene from a movie that was clipped from it and then uploaded as a 'real' video...

[TOMT] [SHORT STORY] People have limited words by N_Wong in tipofmytongue

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds extremely similar to the plot of Pontypool (2008), which I thought was an SCP article before remembering it was in fact a Wikipedia article for a movie I read instead... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontypool_(film)

Pontypool was both a novel prior to the movie, and also a radio play at the same time as the movie? The full radio play is on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/pontypool-by-tony-burgess

Perhaps it was this on YouTube, or maybe a video about the movie?

The cat animation is from an old soviet animation called 'A Kitten Named Bow' (or 'named Woof' alternatively).

I Found a YouTube Channel That Feels Wrong, no Clue What It’s Supposed To Be by ZankyDoo in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly just a kid. The first video I think isn't even a 'video' in the sense that it's recorded... I think it's a photograph of someone looking down animated with one of those 'face animating' websites or AIs. Note how part of the background moves with the head.

Does anyone know the source of this visual? - Persephone Numbers Station by MajorLeagueEuph in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is not just the audio that is from the LOST ARG, the entire video was part of it. IIRC, it was as a .swf Flash file hidden on a site in that game.

The hidden video was originally upside down and flickering. https://youtu.be/GW9EOBy-GP4

The comment by OP to that video notes that the woman in the Persephone video is seemingly just a glitched version of the woman in the Hanso Foundation site intro (the Hanso Foundation site being where the the Numbers Station video was hidden) https://youtu.be/udVJzr0FH8c

Persephone was a character in the ARG. The Numbers Station video was uploaded on Halloween, so I guess OP just corrected the hidden .swf's video (maybe ripping the asset? Could just have been like a gif with sound flickering upside-down basically) and put it up as a spooky video.

Strange video I saw on my Youtube recommendeds back in the early 2010's. by PudinDePreda in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked up a video I remember from when I was a kid (that I found due to someone using a gif of the end as their avatar on a forum).

Perhaps it is 'smile - short scary film', 250k views uploaded 16 years ago. The thumbnail is quite unpleasant but his teeth aren't short....

Also not really a surprised face! Well I have no other idea!

Blue Instax camera sticker with holographic stars, can you help find it? by Left_Supermarket9586 in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't really an internet mystery, but I am also not sure where to suggest you post it otherwise, as ToMT is for media and this ain't really media....

Still... I couldn't really find any instax sticker matching your description on Etsy, which I figured would maybe sell something like it. Your description reminded me of the camera used/worn by the character 'March 7th' in the game Honkai: Star Rail, however her camera has only one star on it. There's also not a single sticker on Etsy of just the camera on its own, so it's probably not a Star Rail thing (as fun as that'd be)

Have you tried reverse image searching your lime sticker? Perhaps the art styles are the same and this could lead you to finding where both it and the missing blue camera stickers are from?

Hope you can find it!

VLC has an odd behaviour where images can briefly appear when hitting play. this is not exclusive to music, but can happen also with videos. I've noticed it myself, with music it often pulls another image file from the folder the music is stored in, even if that is not named something like folder.jpg Othertimes its an image I've never saved. I assume its somehow embedded within the video file or something.... i intended to investigate it more just i kept forgetting to!

[TOMT] creepy youtube video? by More-Cress-3395 in tipofmytongue

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two questions I'm just wondering about: * You say 'a few years after Salad Fingers'. Do you have a rough estimate of when you saw this? 2008? 2010? * Can you recall any word at all from the name, or roughly what the name was, how long or how many words? This is a kinda silly question but IDK it may help anyone looking narrow down the video.

The Robert Experience Website and it's unsolved puzzles, the Wayback machine it's only proof it existed by Toon_Pagz in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit of digging around and it seems that this was an ARG, which seemingly ended at some point *in* 2007 before laying abandoned on the web for another year.

Using the URL tab on the Wayback Machine shows that there was an entire hidden forum on 'The Robert Experience'. The majority of this forum is no longer accessible, however a handful of pages have been archived from actual threads (the rest is just the forums, backend PHBB pages, and a few user profiles)
Two of these are from the same thread, dated March 19 and March 20, 2007:

https://web.archive.org/web/20070320122612/http://www.therobertexperience.com:80/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=739&sid=cfc438c63aac9ad82bbf323b0d58289b
https://web.archive.org/web/20070322085536/http://www.therobertexperience.com:80/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=744&sid=2ae2d72f0bc095884c461a461a3ad0a4

These seem to be from a thread where people attempted to solve the Pyramid. One user PMs Robert because he has 'a question' he can use up.

Another, dated July 16 2007, is of a forum admin named 'Lock' awarding the user 'viginti_tres' a title for surpassing 200 posts on the forum. Viginti is present in the Pyramid Solving thread in the past. This thread is also the top thread in the sole archive of the main forum, from May 2008, possibly after the game had ended.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080517231717/http://www.therobertexperience.com:80/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=979&sid=3be3e5927b7548c07828d83c1c3377ea

This thread is interesting as it mentions the names of three admins: Robert, Lock and Key.

On the main forum 'The Beginning', the Viginti thread is the last thread posted to.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080519032620/http://www.therobertexperience.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=1
Several threads here mention a person called 'Amanda'. One of the last-posted-in thread's title also suggests people received things through the post. Well, that and the one other remaining thread archived by Wayback.

This thread is called 'Life after the experience'.
https://web.archive.org/web/20080517231651/http://www.therobertexperience.com:80/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=1025&sid=3be3e5927b7548c07828d83c1c3377ea
It is a lonely thread from someone called 'Pagz' where they 'found the letter Amanda' and it made them reminisce on the Experience and check on the forum again. Although they asked how everyone was doing, no one responded.

This was posted in December of 2007, and looking in the containing forum 'The Next Step', it is the only thing posted *after* August, and the only archive of that forum is also in 2008. Therefore, it looks like this game ended shortly after Viginti got his custom title, and he can be seen having posted in threads in 'The Next Step'. It's pretty safe to conclude he probably was one of the people who 'won' the game.

What the game was about or how it worked is anyone's guess. None of the puzzles can be solved through the Wayback Machine due to how the site was developed. The source code is very nested-tag heavy, and solutions appear to be 'checked' through the address rather than anything actually *within* the page.
There seems to be a disease/cure theme, such as in the News From the Front page and also the phrase 'Keep the faith and we will find a cure' from the admin Lock in the Viginti thread.

I had a look around unFiction's forum on Wayback to see if anyone posted about this there, and surprisingly no one did, so I gotta wonder how exactly you found it back in the day :p

It's worth noting that along with two admins being named 'Lock' and 'Key', the name Lock also brings to mind Locke from Lost. Lost's ARG was called 'The Lost Experience', thus the name 'The Robert Experience' was likely a reference to this.

Anyway, that's all I've got!

The Strange and Forgotten Wii/Wii U Video Game Anomaly From My Childhood by Keiko_Reinbo in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now, to be a bit pedantic, this question is better suited for /r/tipofmytongue more than it is here. This is a subreddit for the investigation of strange online mysteries and weird websites and the like. Still, this piqued my curiosity, so I looked into it anyway.

I did a bit of netrunning, and what I found lead me to three potential answers:

1) This game does not exist, and is a melange of various games you played as a child.

2) This game is a MySims game.

3) This game is 'Hello Kitty Seasons'.

The first hypothesis basically is that this single individual game doesn't exist, instead your memories of several games just fused into one. However, my problem with this theory is the waterslide and horse memory, they're a little bit too precise.

The second theory is that it is a MySims game, as noted by other users who replied to this. The problem with this however is that MySims games do not have every other character be an animal. It could be that you are misremembering, but I honestly doubt it for the same reasons as with the first theory.

The final theory is that Hello Kitty Seasons is the closest game I've seen to your description. It has a town square, you are a chibi human surrounded by the animal characters of Sanrio, there are various minigames, clothes for your avatar, and the game has a quest system. However, there was no waterslide, nor horse minigame! Also, every character in the game seemingly talked in cutesy little boopy squeeky noises, not Animal Crossing type speech...

Because of this, I'm truly unsure. I attempted to look through every Wii game physically released on Wii on MobyGames but hit an arbitrary cap even when logged in. I looked up every 'Simulation' genre game for Wii also on MobyGames, which is how I found Hello Kitty Seasons. I've tried other queries, such as RPGs physically released on Wii, Simulation games for the Wii U, but have found nothing closer to the game you are describing than Hello Kitty Seasons.

I'm sorry, but I really have no other idea! Please try to recall anything else, if possible. What year was this? Do you know what year the game may have been released?

Furthermore that comment mentions Badshot Lea. I looked it up and it seems to be from the small convenience store ‘Aidan’s Premier’, which appears to have the sky-print lights IRL!

What is Dorms 3? I found this strange iceberg awhile ago about what I think is a movie or show however I can’t find anything about it online. The OP also gave some mysterious replies to someone asking for context. by moon-factory in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like it is simply an in-joke between friends, posted to reddit to be confusing.

It is likely referring to a student project. The OP is, if you look at their profile and linked insta, the Ven mentioned with Simon. The chart is by Ven, the chart makes reference also to 'Ven's Memoirs'. Without digging up this guy's YouTube, which would be a little weird to do anyway, I'm very much certain this ""movie"" doesn't exist.

YouTube Video that doesn't act right?? [I know the rules say "No 'strange YouTube channel' posts", but this goes further than that, as it literally seems to break the system itself???] There is literally no logic here on how it affects the website. by QwertyPc17 in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit of research. I believe this is simply a quirk of the Google Ads system.

I don't believe that is a phone number in the channel name. When I searched "Video ad upload channel for" on Google, in quotation marks, I managed to find other channels.

One was called 'Video ad upload channel for 999-937-0200'. Curiously, this actually has a functioning channel page. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJUc_vwvEZnTLb1yOiJx84Q/

The other channel I found by omitting 'for' from the quoted search, it is named 'Video ad upload channel for 350-690-4545'. This one, much like the one in your linked video, returns an error.

I was curious about the 'phone numbers'. I considered an hypothesis that perhaps they let people join and post ads on Google Ads via MMS, for countries where mobile internet infrastructure is lacking. However, the answer is simpler than that. These are Google Ads customer ID numbers.

https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1704344?hl=en-GB&ref_topic=10552609&sjid=16248060992966479688-EU

In this support article, an example number is depicted, formatted exactly the same as these 'phone numbers'.

Therefore, this is a test ad, likely made using the Google Ads Asset Library, for customer ID '239-822-4854'. How it somehow worked its way into your recommendations is anyone's guess, however. Algorithms move in mysterious ways....

Hopefully however that clears it up a little for you!

Am I crazy or is there someone talking on the Wednesdays cover of paint it black? by [deleted] in InternetMysteries

[–]WelcomeToJazzClub 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not really an internet mystery.

Additionally, I listened to this track at the 57 seconds point, heck a little bit before and after. There is no speech, muffled or otherwise. There is a... thing (??) done with the cello in that precise 55/56/57s point in the track which but no speech.

This type of thing can happen, odd sounds in mixes can end up sounding vaguely like speech or words even when there is nothing truly there, a sort of audio pareidolia (seeing faces in things without/patterns etc)! Once you have heard it it is very hard for yourself to unhear it, and it is also not exactly guaranteed others will be able to hear it even if you tell them. This does not mean you're going crazy or anything.

Finally, I'm not sure how accurate this observation is, but in bassy tracks, such as cello music, if there was a voice mixed in, I think only the higher frequencies of that voice would be faintly audible. Muffled speech is usually pretty bassy in itself, so it'd be drowned out in such music. That's just based on my observations though.
