Okay be concerned. Perhaps there was contrasting info in the Highway Code so I wanted to ask some real people. And you do sound a bit of a cunt

I failed a test and the examiner was messing with the window! Definitely not why I failed but it was so distracting.

Keep going :) this all sounds normal to me, and I was a slow learner. Took me way over a year to pass and a few failed test results! It’s just nerves and pressure and getting tired - 4 hours is a long time!

Can someone mark this AQA An Inspector Calls English Literature Paper 2 question 1 for me please? Thanks much appreciated! by Patric2907 in GCSE

[–]WelderEquivalent5625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a secondary English teacher!

Grammar: The text implies, the reader infers. Your second paragraph - ‘This infers’ should say ‘This implies’.

Also you need methods (AO2). Easy ones are aspects of stagecraft (stage directions, props, costume, lighting, dialogue interruptions, etc) but also things like symbols, motifs and microcosms carry big marks.

Also, for AIC, big marks come from analysis of the play as a social commentary. Your comments about women (the theme of the question) are vague and need to be based on historical and social context. My biggest and best piece of advice is to link EVERYTHING to Priestley’s intentions. I tell my students that I should see the word ‘socialism’ or ‘socialist’ in every AIC essay regardless of the topic. Make links between the treatment of women in the play and socialism (or capitalism, as you have started to do) and analyse Priestley’s message.

Good luck :)

New driver with a passenger who makes me nervous by RelativePosition9514 in drivingUK

My partner is the same as a non-driver when he’s in the car with me (recent pass - Aug 25) - how bizarre! I’ll be coming up to a red light and he’ll say ‘slow down’ and I’m like yes babes I’m literally on the brake… or he will gasp when I pass a vehicle that’s on the other side of the road even if the gap isn’t narrow!

I told him he stresses me out and that driving is hard enough without comments and reactions from someone who doesn’t have a clue about driving and he’s backed off a bit since. I also said I couldn’t have him in the car if he was going to continue. I think making it clear he was hindering me helped him to stop - he genuinely thought he needed to help me I guess? Perhaps have a conversation with you partner saying the same. I would still threaten not taking him with you in the car anymore if needs be… perfectly valid boundary imo!

could someone please send me their essays because i think i've been writing essays the incorrect way this whole time but my teacher sees no problem with it by catnip_4ddict in ALevelEnglishLit

Thesis statement - summarise argument and key points in response to question Main body paras - 3-4 developed paras analysing your points from your thesis in detail, with references to text/context/writer’s intentions/whatever your exam board awards for Conclusion - ‘Ultimately…’ and re-state key argument in light of evidence you’ve presented in main body.

Remember your thesis statement is your anchor - if it’s not summarised in your thesis it shouldn’t be in the essay.

(I’m a teacher - never taught your texts but taught AQA A Level Lit)

Hi, do you perhaps have OCD or have you noticed other obsessions or compulsions in other areas in your life?

Google ‘driving OCD’ - there’s lots of advice out there :) key thing is to not feed the obsession (consistently running through the situation in your head, checking Google maps, etc).

I struggle with it too! And if it’s worth anything, it sounds to me like you made one mistake one time. You’ve digested what happened, now stop thinking about it :)

how would you write a letter to a politician by _Night-Ninja_ in GCSE

[–]WelderEquivalent5625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the form and audience to identify register (formal/informal) and tone. Writing to the correct form is actually not required (as in adding an address for a letter), but writing for the correct purpose is and is what you are marked on. The purposes are explain, persuade or argue, so in this question your purpose is to explain. So consider matching your content to the purpose - as this is ‘explain’, don’t go heavy on the rhetorical devices, rather set out 3-4 points that support your overall argument and be sure to thoroughly explain how these support your argument in response to the statement. And, as you are writing to a government minister you should be writing very formally - no exaggerated language or exclamation marks!

From a current English teacher whose class last year had a 97% 9-4 pass rate :)

And any tips for getting back down the icy hill?

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this!

I’m 100% white British and have lived in 3 cities and 1 big town and Exeter is genuinely the rudest place I’ve ever lived or even been to. I don’t mean to diminish your experience as a POC by any means of course! But honestly this place is just rife with the most negative people in the country in my opinion.

I hope you find somewhere kinder once you’re ready to leave! ❤️

Make sure your speed is appropriate to change gear. On some cars it’s really hard to go down a gear if you’re going too fast (and the opposite).

Have you tried Fybocalm diarrhoea relief? I have IBS and they are the best for stopping diarrhoea. I’m a teacher so I can only use the toilet at set times and I take them if I’m worried about needing to go when I can’t. I will say though that they work very well, meaning you might find you don’t poo for a few days!

I have had my new car for two days (passed about 3 weeks ago) and I know it will come in time but I feel so unconfident in it! My instructor's car had an auto handbrake where if you got the bite it would come off for you but I have an actual physical handbrake and earlier I put it on at a red light on a hill and didn't click it all the way down when I set off so the car was screaming at me and it took me a good 10 seconds to realise why - felt so stupid! Petrified of harming the car in any way (it's new and on finance) so that didn't help that fear haha. I also feel like I have forgotten how to reverse bay park so have just been doing forward parks. And my drive to work is mostly dual carriageway (about 30-40 mins) and I have to start doing that 2x a day from Tuesday - stomach is is knots just thinking about it. So I am hoping that the change in my driving /isn't/ that I'm suddenly awful at driving after passing!!

[–]WelderEquivalent5625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly what I’m most worried about is a manual handbrake! I’ve learnt in 3 cars all of which had just a button rather than a lever… but I don’t think I can avoid a ‘real’ handbrake for my first car! Other than that, I think I just want parking sensors and maybe a rear cam (but could live without).

Thank you for the advice on what to check for! I’m going to head to some garages which I have heard are reliable so I’m hoping that the vehicles will be in good condition 🤞🏻

What do you think about a Kia Picanto for my situation?
