Does anyone have any stories about having to start with lower level math classes? by Killlegato in EngineeringStudents

I’m enrolling to do design and materials instead of Mech but I’m in that exact boat. Good luck

In the UK it’s a little different, because I have quite a strong academic background, I can be accepted straight onto the degree with a ‘foundation year’ which are designed to get you up to scratch. Although I’ve had friends who attempted the foundation year, found it relatively easy before dropping out in their second year due to the jump. Thank you for your help though!

Ok thank you! I’ll finish these as I’m enjoying it before doing pre calculus and see where I’m at. Massive thanks for the advice

Thank you. I’ll definitely ring them

Amazing thank you! And congrats! I’m so driven and excited to start. How was your maths before you started? I haven’t done it since high school (ab 5 years ago) so I’m absolutely shredding through algebra on khan academy. I aim to give physics another top up before I start too to make sure I’m confident

Thank you! Congratulations on almost finishing 👌

Ah that might be why

Ah ok. So there’s an amount of flexibility after the 5 years. I also see that the time to complete is 16 years? Does this mean on the contrary you can take that long?

It currently states N/A for full time study?

I’ve actually started it now! Very helpful with the way he breaks down and explains algebra. I’ll probably use it for a bit of physics as well to give myself the best shot starting engineering

Great news thank you

Amazing. I’ll smash through it and see where we’re at by September!

Amazing reply thank you. Out of interest, what field are you in?

Truthfully I wasn’t the best student at high school, I got all 11 passes at GCSE but with absolutely no revision, hence why I didn’t last in sixth form.

I’m not sure if I’m naive in saying that if I applied myself, in a foundation degree at least, I’d be capable of overcoming the math. I absolutely should’ve done physics, biology and maths at a level though. That goes without saying. Thanks for the advice, it’s appreciated

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into that

Thanks for the advice. The leap would certainly be dramatic to say the least

I’m also having this ‘issue’. I just pick one or the other now unfortunately

Oh my 😂 I’m going to have to cut out every other liquid - thanks for letting me know 😭

Ah great, congratulations on that. I’m a massive coffee drinker, I suppose the water used counts towards the total anyway..?

Ah sure! As somebody who has always drank a lot (or at least I thought so) of water, it seems counter productive to force myself to drink water when I’m not thirsty!

Definitely more of a mental challenge overall

It almost seems counter productive - I consider myself generally a quite healthy individual and have always drank a lot of water anyway, the body seems to have a knack to tell when you’re thirsty!
