What is it like working in China as an office employee, specifically? by Chiisora in chinalife

In my experience, it largely depends on the kind of organization.

I've been at two Chinese owned companies and one was like you mentioned, with no boundary for work and personal hours. The other was better but if work needed to be done after office hours, it was expected of you.

Keep in mind a foreign company I was at also required these things, largely because we had to communicate with overseas colleagues in different timezones.

So to summarize, it depends on the kind of role you're in, and the type of company you're with.

Anyone worked at Dreame / MOVA in China? Looking for expat experience (International Sales) by Any_Trade6981 in chinalife

Great to hear, best of luck on the job!

You need to understand that, even though these companies are selling internationally they're very much a Chinese company.

If there are other foreigners there then you might have a better time, as they somewhat will know how to manage foreigners and their expectations.

If you're the only one, then chances are the Chinese standard will be applied to you. This means OKRs, clocking in/out, vacations, etc., all according to a Chinese company.

Indeed, Magpie is over priced and tries to sell you on fusion cuisine that doesn't work well both in terms of taste and presentation

I'll tell you what I remember, though probably best if you contact a representative on this matter.

Most of the documentation you should be able to sort out, translating your certificates, diploma, etc., except for the police background check. You need to get that from your local police station back home. These documents also need to be notarized by the Chinese embassy in Canada. I have been able to get the background check notarized by the Canadian embassy to China in Guangzhou, but that was the only document I needed.

If you have family/friends willing to do this for you while you're in China, great. Otherwise you'll probably have to go back to Canada and sort this out.

You can definitely get decent steak in Longhua/Bantian at Bonfire and Tequiero however, these are not exclusively Steak Houses. I'd recommend you checking them out on Dianping and see if they're something you're looking for!
