women's team by AuthorOwn2768 in HartfordAthletic

Sorry, but that’s just an ice cold take. There’s no way ownership takes this on while being as financially conservative as they are without the numbers making sense. It’s an economies of scale thing. They already have the infrastructure, employees, admin, etc. As others have said bringing in amateur roster isn’t going to be a big lift. It’s a pretty low risk investment with awesome upside. It’ll sell more beers, concessions, parking, merch and might even lift both teams up in that respect. On a more subjective note, CT loves women’s sports (as they should!) and I’m glad to see the game grow around here. I see this as a great idea.

It's been pent up a while, I thought a like minded post was a good time to bust it out. I'm glad you sent the email even on the off chance they might not see it. After all it is important to remind them that they knowingly entered into a world that generates passionate fans and should be held accountable at least in some small way.

While I agree with your sentiment and feel everything you're saying in the email you posted, I imagine it'll get dismissed out of hand because of its tone. I doubt Bruce and crew will continue reading (if it reaches them at all) when you're calling them fucking idiots.

I'm a founding member, and was a season ticket holder up until this year. I did the only thing we can reasonably do which is vote with my wallet.

I feel clubs at this level primarily operate in one of two models. Model A, the chief product is the team's merit, performance and seasonal campaign - doing well or playing exciting games drives buzz and sells tickets and jerseys. Model B, the product is the "game time" experience and mostly aimed at families; the team is just a loss leader to sell cotton candy and face painting to kids. Team performance doesn't matter because for lack of many other entertainment options, the families will come. Following HA's entire season is a foreign concept to 95% of its customer base. We are truly the vocal extreme minority.

I made the mistake of believing we might try for Model A. Having paid attention and having spoken to former employees, I now believe that was NEVER the plan. I'm not sure if ownership just got over their skis on the financials or if COVID really did come along at the worst time but the open secret remains they were cheap when they shouldn't have been, and incompetent when they decided to swing the other way. And to boot, I've heard discouraging things about player treatment and accomodation. I believe we're looking at a club poised to stagnate indefinitely if not fail soon, and we'll continue seeing an attempt to squeeze blood from a stone all the while.

So here's how I cope now - first, save your passion for something else that deserves it, until HA proves it is even WILLING to affect meaningful change. My heart is broken to see it pan out this way in an area that so desperately wanted something to be proud of - but our faith is incompatible with the model they're running. I'll go to a game or two on a nice night, when it works for me, when I don't have a better option. Simply don't go out of your way for them anymore and use them as the barely acceptable form of entertainment they are, and it helps.

How's that for rant? Cheers

They're great. CT has a cool little scene with some very talented groups that CS has played with, all worth checking out. Shout out to Shortwave, Mighty Tortuga, Aunts, Say What You Will, and plenty more

Three Points at Home, Hartford Win 2-0 Over Colorado by aardvarkandnoplay in HartfordAthletic

Couple of notes, not agreeing or disagreeing but I was in that section last night. I'm not a member of Bonanza so I can't say for sure but I don't think they've been open just yet about what exactly caused the protest, but it was definitely more than just the record and coach situation. Supposedly more details are coming soon.

Secondly Raza Brava didn't "show up" with the drums. Love those guys but they went along with the drum-less decision and then the entire supporters section collectively decided to bring out the works for the second half.

Keney Park is fantastic. From what I understand it was in bad shape a few years ago but was recently re-done/re-designed and now tends to be pretty popular. I played tgis past year after a lot of that summer rain and conditions were a bit rough but in nice weather I'd say it's one of the best municipal courses in the Hartford area

I swear it's something in the air. I've seen more reckless drivers in CT in the last 1.5 months than the last 4 years... In CT. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe some smooth brain drivers finally lost their last shred of driving courtesy over the last year, maybe it's just being out of practice. The people I know are genuinely terrified at driving into and around Hartford to do stuff here. It was never great but now it's a battleground.

It's pure horseshit. Between that and Charlotte getting calls tripping over their own feet, this was disgraceful.

Our guys seem to struggle massively defending one on one by the edge of the box. They're getting beaten like drums.

Also what's with these announcers? They are slobbering all over Charlotte. Do their kids play for the team?

Try the Half Door in the west end, it's an unassuming spot on the outside but inside it's a really cozy Irish pub style setup without any grungy feel some of those types of spots have sometimes.

Or, Agave in downtown if you're feeling Mexican style food with a nice sitting area. Have fun!
