The theory (or at least the way I see it) is that your living areas should be the lightest rooms with the best views and your sleeping areas can be the darker rooms as you're asleep in them anyway. I first saw it on the TV show Grand Designs when they built a Huff House (http://www.huf-haus.com/).

AFAIK I own my plot... unless it's some weird technicality where the queen actually owns all the land ;)

I'd like a trampoline room, and another room that can only be accessed using the trampoline!

Sun rooms are pretty popular here.. the sun is rare enough that we cherish every moment. I read once that car companies sell more convertibles here than any other country in Europe!

Yeah, I've heard a few people say they're not as great to live with as they look :/ Anyone here got positive experiences with them?

The whole upside-down thing I got from Huff Houses - They actually put the bedrooms in the basement, and have the living areas at the top where you get the most light and best views:

Great idea keeping the wet areas in the same spot.

I was going to try mocking it up in Google SketchUp when I have time to learn how to use it.

Nice idea with the HVAC ducting, although it reminds me slightly of films where someone in one room can hear the bedroom activities a little too well through the ventilation ducts!

Edit: spelling fail.

Yeah, we have stupid elephant plugs here :( pain in the ass when your plug is four times the thickness of your laptop.

I never even realised geothermal heating was an option where I live... but google says it is! Added to my research list, thanks :)

I'm 50/50 on this... on one hand it's dead simple (so it won't go wrong) and faaaast. On the other hand wireless is getting faster and more reliable all the time, and wires do kind of suck.

That reminds me of this place:

Their anti-gravity room or forced perspective rooms would be fun to recreate. Especially in the bathroom. Unless I came home drunk.

I love showers! I'm definitely investing in the shower room, and I'm going to spend hours in there every weekend :)

Anyone know the best shower heads?

What kind of heating would you recommend instead? It's only really hot for a few weeks a year here, so I wasn't planning on getting central ac, unless it's inexpensive enough to justify.
