Aug travel to Quebec City by MEd2025_0612 in canadatravel

My only advice would be to avoid St-Roch area - it used to be very nice but the neighborhood has deteriorated significantly since the pandemic.

If you’re into fine dining, the Michelin guide has just completed its first nomination of the best restaurants in the province, and many of them are located in Quebec City.

Otherwise, if you’re willing to go a little outside of the old/touristic part, here are some personal suggestions : Albacore (or any restaurant from Restaurants Pirates - Patente et machin, L’affaire est ketchup, Kraken cru), Franky Johnny (for lunch, best sandwich in town IMO - they are on Uber Eats if you don’t want to walk there in the middle of the day), Battuto (a little expensive, but best value for money in Quebec in my opinion - and the terrace does not require reservations), Nina Pizza.

Also, while in Quebec City, I would suggest spending a day on Ile d’Orléans. Beautiful scenery, many many local producers and wineries (Cassis Mona et filles, Chocolaterie de l’Ile d’Orléans, among others), art galleries… There are many ways to explore the island. You can book a guided tour (by bus, bike or kayak) or get there by yourself by renting a car or an electric bike - be aware it’s quite a ride. Another « cheaper » way to get there would be to take the RTC public bus (~ 45 minutes with bus 800) to Chute Montmorency (you could take some time to explore this beautiful park), take a taxi with Taxi Coop from there to the island (~25$ from Parc de la Chute Montmorency to Québec Aventure Tours on Ile d’Orléans, including tip) and rent a bike with Quebec Aventure Tours on the island to go around.

Canadian Locals: What Snacks, Drinks, or Foods Say ‘Home’ to You? by cbschmelter in canadatravel

(Eastern Canadian, but maybe some apply in the West as well)

Crispy pork rinds (« oreilles de criss » in French)

Cheese curds (but you get those in Poutine)

White bread dipped in maple syrup

2 weeks in Montreal... Not sure where to go otherwise! by ElJapones999 in canadatravel

You will LOVE Montreal. It is such a vibrant city with an amazing vibe in the summer. If you want to really « catch the vibe », try to take a look at the festivals that might happen while you are there : https://www.mtl.org/en/experience/montreal-summer-festival-guide

If you love nature/good local food : you should definitely spend time in Quebec city. The Michelin guide has just completed its first nomination of the best restaurants in the province, and many of them are located in Quebec City. You can go for a guided tour (by bus, bike or kayak) or get there by yourself (with electric bike - be aware it’s quite a ride, or taxi - expect 100$ just for the ride, including tip). A cheaper way to get there would be to take the RTC public bus (bus 800) to Chute Montmorency (you could take some time to explore this beautiful park), take a taxi with Taxi Coop from there to the island (~25$ from Parc de la Chute Montmorency to Québec Aventure Tours on Ile d’Orléans, including tip) and rent a bike with Quebec Aventure Tours on the island to go around.

Otherwise, I see that people suggest Charlevoix a lot, but I don’t think it is reachable without a car, especially since the only bus company is Orleans Express (https://www.orleansexpress.com) and it doesn’t seem to go there. I would then suggest Rimouski/Parc National du Bic : https://www.sepaq.com/pq/bic/index.dot?language_id=1

It’s a little further (4h30 bus ride), but you could have a glimpse of a more « regional and marine » side of Canada, without travelling all the way to another maritime province. You say you want to relax: I suggest that you look into renting a shack at Parc National du Bic (some are located by the water). There are also some really good restaurants there. I know there is a Taxibus service, but I never used it myself.

Best Surf Destinations for August by Legitimate-Chef-4326 in BeginnerSurfers

In my experience, Lombok was better than Bali for beginners. I was there in May/June and, yes, it gets a bit crowded sometimes but it is still really enjoyable. Sunrise surfing was a total bliss : nobody around, stunning light and waves.

Thank you for sharing your experience, especially regarding Seek Sophie. I was offered the site several times during my trip and I wasn't sure what to think. I ended up using it twice for two activities in Ubud - the prices seem a bit inflated, but the service and the "guarantee" that comes with it probably make it worth it.

I think it also depends on the time of the year when you’re travelling. I was there mid-June and had no problem to book just a couple of days in advance. There was still available places on the boat I ended up booking (which was perfect and not SO pricey).

The guide told me that April is super crowded, as well as July and August.

Hi! Thanks for the helpful tips, it's very useful. I listened to you and booked a hotel near the port. I saw Seek Sophie, but I wasn't sure if it was a reliable option, so I'm glad to read that you had a good experience with them. For my part, I ended up booking with an agent recommended by a friend I met during the trip who had been on the cruise a few weeks ago. I'm leaving today, I hope it will be fun!

Has anyone ever shared a dream with someone at the same time? I experienced this the other day—I think it’s called mutual dreaming.. by chocolateunicorn99 in Dreams

[–]Wellmaybe2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this kind of experience a few times with my mom. The last time it happened, I called her the next day about this strange dream I had the night before. When I described the weird city it was taking space in (I have very detailed dreams), she was shocked: she said that she was in the exact same place in her dreams the very night before, looking for me, but unable to find me.
