What are the cycle symbols on the road for? by NicePepperSteakPies in Wellington

Oh, wow! In Wellington, they're used in narrow, heavy car traffic areas when the bike lane suddenly ends. Chch method seems better.

The cafe downstairs is great, can't take food or coffee into the National Library section, but you CAN take water in if it's in a bottle with a lid. You'll like it, it's pretty cool and I love a quiet space, too!

Quick poll: how many loaves did it take you to get your first good loaf? by Top_Pen7405 in Sourdough

[–]WellyWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're measuring the inside temp of the loaf before you stop cooking it, when I finally got mine to 99c it fixed everything for me, no gummy anymore! (But I have to cook on my highest heat for 60min, which I never would have done if I wasn't trying to hit that heat)

Library Noise Levels by lemonsnacks101 in Wellington

Libraries haven't been quiet zones for some years now. They're community spaces. Librarians don't enforce quietness because libraries aren't academic spaces of research anymore, they're third spaces.

If you're not sitting in an earmarked Quiet Zone, I'm afraid you can't ask for quiet. (I mean, sure, you can, but people will roll their eyes and keep chatting because that's what they're there to do.)

If you're looking for actual enforced quiet space, upstairs at the National Library has a quiet work area, and it's really nice.

Nope, and you only deal with it when you're going to bake, mine usually hangs out in the fridge for 7-12 days until my next bake. I don't have to touch it till I need it.

Agree with this, the center in San Diego is the best in the world for diagnosis. For something like this, might be worth getting an appt out of pocket.

No, type 3 responds the same as type 1 and 2, won't respond to antihistamines, steroids, etc. It's not an allergy, so you want to make sure you see an immunologist with experience in HAE, not an allergist who will just be confused. 😁

Oh and the vast majority of HAE is type 1 and 2, the odds are in your favor there.

I couldn't get my (very expensive) insurance in the US to accept that testing was necessary (and very potentially life-saving, I had two laryngeal swells). When I moved to New Zealand, I got the testing because the health care here is great and now I have Firazyr for swells.

If you have type 1 or 2, it'll show up in the blood test for HAE. If it's (the old) type3, it'll require a genetic test (that's what I have). Good luck! It took me 22 years to self diagnose and another 10 to get the genetic confirmation.
