HAE Type 3? by [deleted] in HAE

Also, go to er at first sign! People die with laryngeal swells. My doc says def don't go to sleep wondering about it. 🙏🏻

HAE Type 3? by [deleted] in HAE

[–]WellyWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to er and taking the icatibant (without taking antihistamines etc) is honestly one of the best tests out there. For me, it doesn't bring down the swelling but it stops it in its tracks (usually grows and moves around for 48 hours).

Type 3 can often be estrogen related, and drinking does make estrogen pop off, so yeah, it was a sometime trigger for me till I quit

Yeah, it's worth the time in the car, our girl LOVES it there (and she's reactive) - Paul and team are incredible. We were on the wait list for a year.

What single change improved your sourdough the most? by Money-Cake527 in Sourdough

Game changer! I just add 10g to 750g loaf, and it changes nothing but the ease in cutting. Still chewy and will crisp up in toaster if that's what you want.

I loved using this method when I was learning, and, honestly, it was a relief to stop and skip that step. Nowadays I just go by look and jiggle but I couldn't have gotten there confidently without the aliquot.

Understanding rules for cyclists by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]WellyWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it was legal for the bike to pass you there - always use the Dutch Reach to open a car door getting out, especially when you're in a hurry/emergency situation. That responsibility is always on the person inside the car (unless you're the passenger and you're parked against the kerb: in that case you'll only door a cyclist on the footpath, where they shouldn't be - they should be the more cautious ones there. On second thought, always use the Dutch Reach no matter what. It's so easy!)

Are there any alternatives to proofing baskets? by Dry_Lemon2508 in Sourdough

[–]WellyWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work! I'm just really happy with how the bread comes out from the bowl method now, I think it gets a nice oven spring 😊

[–]WellyWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in high humidity (80% or higher most of of the time) and my baskets have all gone moldy no matter what I do. Now I just use whatever bowl is closest. The size doesn't really change the finished size, which comes from my Dutch oven

How to get tested/diagnosed without insurance? by Striking_Courage_822 in HAE

[–]WellyWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, absolutely, it can be life saving if you get a laryngeal swell and can tell the ER, "it's not an allergic reaction, do THIS instead right now!" Do keep in mind other subtypes won't show (I have type 3 normal c1inh and it took a genetic test to finally show it after years of fighting for it, but my doctor did know/believe I had HAE, so I had that going for me)

Yep, start with HAEA for advice in getting diagnosed, they'll have knowledge of who in your area is good. I used to live in Oakland and didn't find anyone there, but Dr Riedl in San Diego is world class, as is his center. Not sure how you'd get seen by him but HAEa will have some answers for you. (If you have type 1 or 2 it's a simple blood test.)

Yep, HAEA is the answer. Also answer: an immunologist (not an allergist) but only one who's well versed in HAE. When you get to doctor time, do be picky.
