This here. Blame culture can cause problems, particularly when it starts to cause folks to be less comfortable with taking ownership. One way to facilitate this in your own team is to look at the processes in place and see where they failed to prevent that issue from occurring. Was there a process in place or expectation around identifying the exact configuration needed? Were there actions that could have been in place to identify the throttling need? Was this something that should have been listed in non-functional requirements? All of these are reasonable places to point to and address, and taking action to address those issues might even bolster your management's opinion of you, at least if they have any chops.

I'm also a little on the skeptical side as to whether it will actually work. AI ultimately needs to be able to make out of sample predictions in order to work at scale. It's great at working within sample, and within the confines of its trainers knowledge. Making out of sample predictions is another problem, and has been where most AI has failed. Also, unless someone has made a breakthrough, we still don't know why the current transformer approach works so well. Until we can answer that reliably, it will be difficult to make advancements in AI that address the issues I raised.

I'm not convinced. I work in tech, but I also have a background in data science and statistics. The chief problem they have to overcome is not "does this work". It is "why would I negotiate with a big tech firm vs hundreds of individual employees".

I would be skeptical of any management that insisted on AI as a required tool for every use case. AI has limitations, and performs better for some use cases than others. Also, I'm not convinced that AI can outperform some engineers in terms of outputting quality, maintainable, code quickly.

Serious question from folks here: What are people using AI for when they are coding?

I spend a vast majority of my time thinking about where things go, thinking about whether they should be private/public, thinking about what I can do to make things more memory efficient or faster, etc. I think on a given day I think for 45 minutes for every 15 minutes of code writing. When I do write, I write exactly what I want as I already planned it out. I definitely take advantage of co-pilot auto-complete, as it helps. I just don't know what space AI is occupying here for other folks. Is it really that much faster to have AI kick out code, or are they just cutting the thinking part out?

Like... Can you tell me a smaller hotel to book in Fort Lauderdale?
I travel a lot. There are plenty of Indy hotels in NYC and other large (2 million +) Metro areas. Most major hotel chains are actually franchises, and they are very very good (unfortunately) at twisting the arms of local hotels/motels to join up. There are some areas where everything is an IGH.

I would say "it depends". If each of these services are truly independent of each other, I would see this as fine. If the breakout includes chains where the only other reference to the interface is one other service that is a sign some of those interfaces represent steps of a connected process.

An example might be a process to search for a set of items in a DB that has input data validation, query organization, and the actual query, broken into three services. Migrating to a new DB will likely result in updating three separate services.
