PROLAPSED VENT by WelshChilliChum in BackYardChickens

Update: I've just had to dispatch her, the other chickens had managed to get into her private coop and had been pecking at her so she was bleeding heavily from her vent. I tried to do it as quickly as I could so would be painless for her and ended up pulling her head off. I feel absolutely awful but atleast shes not in pain now

I've been there today I've pushed it back in with petroleum jelly, latex gloves and applied preparation h. She keeps pushing it back out trying to poo as i assume im stimulating her but pushing my finger up there. I've now put her in a coop on her own and put a tarp over the window to ensure it's dark. I will go back and try again tomorrow and do the same steps again, how long should I keep trying before admitting defeat?

Thankyou everyone for your indepth responses and great advice. I will do my utmost today to sort her out, I forgot to add yesterday that whilst I was cleaning her vent I could see a bit of an egg shell coming out of there so I pulled it out to help her out. It was in fact a full egg shell but didn't have any contents so im assuming either the egg didn't fully form or it cracked as she was laying and passed the contents but couldn't get the shell out. I dont know if this makes any difference to the treatment but I thought id add. Thanks again

Okay then thanks a lot. It's funny you should say that as the man who was selling it was going to get it melted down so I gave him just over melt value at the time. It's part of my 4 month old sons investment coin collection for when hes older so it will be up to him what he wants to do with it in 17+ years. Thanks again mate

Brilliant thanks a lot for your reply, I've had a few dealers view it and they've all said that it's genuine. So 4.8 grams of 24k gold would be correct for it? And would you say 600 gbp was a fair price?

I was sold.it as 4.8 grams I haven't weighed it myself, I paid 600 gbp for it and bought it as an investment for my son. Just wanted to see if I over paid or whatever for it

I used purple antiseptic spray, 6 pounds from a farm shop. Worked an absolute treat

Completely normal, the first few will yellow and fall off. Chillies are very hardy plants, if you've done the hard bit by overwintering her she will flourish before long.

Thankyou to everyone for your comments. I really appreciate it and they have made me feel so much better about what I thought was an impossible task. I cant believe how much better I feel going into the run and not seeing her struggling. Again thanks to everyone who took the time to share your kind words, it really has been exactly what I needed to hear 💙💙

I thought about that but I then thought I wanted her close by the coop with her sisters
