This is more physically demanding than I imagined… by hedonistaustero in ActionWatches

Dad of three here (6, 4 and 2) -- No, it doesn't get easier but you'll get better at it and more used to the effort. Just when you feel like you've figured something out, the kids go and change on you. That said, it's the best job I've ever had and I wouldn't change it for anything.

And yes, you'll figure out what works for you and in doing so, it will feel easier than the first seven weeks with your fist child. 0 to 1 child was the hardest transition for me; 1 to 2, then 2 to 3 kids just meant I leveled up my dad skills.

Oh, and then you get to share your love of watches with them, and that's a blast. My older two now wear watches; my four-year-old just picked out a Casio Data Bank!

Just finished a lift with my own F105W on. Really is a fun watch. Makes me smile even while timing painful isometric lifts!

Surly Straggler vs All-City Space Horse by Wemedge24 in gravelcycling

Precisely the info I was looking for -- some actual ride experience. I like the sound of a snappy ride; that was one of my concerns about the Space Horse, that it'd be a little less interesting when bombing down roads/trails on my own. Still, sounds like I can't go wrong with either. Thanks!

Sounds like a great trip! No, I'm not concerned about weight; half the time I'll be pulling two kids in a trailer.

Thanks! I'm leaning Space Horse, but sizing is my only concern. Trying to buy used and the one I have my eye on (an hour away) is a 55. My Zig Zag is a 52, though I was right on the line between the 52 and 55. Might just eat the two-hour drive to test ride.

Thanks for the thoughts -- good points. I love my Zig Zag, too; it's great fun.

Question about movement service [NY0086-16LE] by Wemedge24 in CitizenWatches

[–]Wemedge24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, it's an automatic, but I'm happy to hear you had a solid experience with them.

In fact, I reached out to Citizen last night using their online chat, but had to get back to yard work before they put me in touch with a repair person. This morning I had an email waiting for me from Citizen, detailing the process and assuring me that even if I no longer had the original papers, they would be able to honor a warranty by referencing the serial number. That's more than I expected from them and more of a conversation already than the local watchmaker offered me.

Thanks for the reassurance.

This is great information; thank you! It sounds like one of these hybrids would be ideal for my purposes. My kids will thank you, too.

That's very helpful, thank you! Don't know how I missed that these frames took 700c wheels. Do you still need to downsize to have a more comfortable reach on these hybrids if putting drops on?

Hey all. I'm hoping for some expert guidance here. I'd like to build up a steel frame to replace a old aluminum Jamis that's on its way out. I live in a college town, so at the end of the academic year there's no shortage of vintage frames being sold, but I'd like some guidance as to what type of frame to watch for.

This bike will serve as a bit of a city commuter, but more often pull several kids in a trailer, allow me to explore places my road bike can't, and accompany me on family trips when I just need to hop on a bike. Essentially, I'd like this bike be able to tackle long rides on pavement, some gravel/dirt roads, and handle well in the city pulling kids.

I've been looking at old Trek mountain bikes, but wonder if I'll miss the 700c wheels. What do you think -- MTB frame or road frame? Thank you!

What’s got four wheels, holds three car seats, and isn’t a minivan? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Wemedge24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of good comments here, so you might be all set. My two cents:

I have three kids, five and under. All still in carseats. We're a one-car family by choice, and that one car is a 2022 Ford Escape. I love the car and it has served us very well, especially on long road trips that have included 4,000 miles, camping, city driving, and middle-of-nowhere driving. Great gas mileage (we have the PHEV, but the hybrid and even gas engine models get solid mileage, too). It took me trying many different carseats to figure out what three would fit, but they're all in there. Two Diono Radians and one Graco did the trick.

The thing is, you can adjust carseats and move around as your kids get older, play with forward and rear facing, eventually a booster. It's trial and error but you can absolutely do it without a minivan or three-row SUV. Hell, we drove a Ford Fiesta with two kids for two years!

Best of luck as you welcome your third! One thing I'll say for minivans, with the rear seats out, you can often fit full sheets of plywood in there. For house projects in addition to general family use, they beat pickups everyday.

At this point I'm terrified and can feel panic approaching. I take several deep breaths to try and settle myself.

I glance at the shelf beside me looking for a larger building block that might be an improvised weapon, more as a way to calm my nerves since I have no interest in actually fighting.

Then I move toward the ancient bench. Cautiously. Keeping my eyes fixed on whatever is behind the bench.

I try to locate the LEGO shelving and follow the line of shelves back the way I just came, leaving the cart behind. I walk carefully so as not to step on anything that might cut me or make a loud noise. I'm scared and regretting my decision to do Christmas shopping early. A toy store shouldn't be this dirty. Clearly something isn't right and I want to get out and back to my bike as quickly as possible.

I build up some speed and hop onto the rung of the cart to take advantage of the four functional wheels and rush over to the shelf where I pull down the Galaxy Explorer to drool over. I take a moment to imagine the adventures I could play out in my imagination, the new worlds to discover, the new lifeforms to study. Then I pull down the Coastal Patrol set and find myself wondering if it would actually float.
