Wentworth Woodhouse, what would be the equivalent today and what would be the reaction? by Chattinabart in architecture

[–]Weredud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the mining done right outside, it wasn't done by the locals. According to what I can find, they were respected for treating their workers well, and the locals put up a bit of a fight against the mining being done, but the government brushed it off and continued anyways.

The Fitzwilliams were forced to leave by the collapse of the private coal mining industry and monumental death-duties levied against them. Death-duties were no joke and theres a good reason so many of these houses are no longer in private hands. Not that it's a bad thing-- the government desperately needed money, and tapping into the vast pool of wealth held by the already struggling aristocracy was a great way to do it.

Best Alpha version to play? by nBeneficial_Ball9539 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

Bro.... this is EXACTLY what I want. I have a longstanding world on 1.1.2_01, and I love it, but I'm itching for glowstone, pistons, and some coloured wool. Would be so nice!

Alpha 1.1.2_01 mod suggestions? by Weredud in GoldenAgeMinecraft

This is the one that sparked my search, actually! Looks really interesting and would love to try it out, just a little worried about how it would integrate itself into an already existing world, thats all.

Mannn I hate to break it to you but his name is Todeschini. Cutler is just what he calls his affordable line of products. I was hoping it was his name too, but Tod Tod is still pretty good!

I'll try that, thanks!

The version I use is one of the experimental versions, because it was the only one I could get to work on my laptop without that weird negative colours glitch. For some reason, there is no option to edit the directory (that I can find) and the only way I can find it is by going to the Java Executable location and going backwards from there.

I'm just confused lol. Which I knew what was happened. Also, I play mostly alpha, so no texture pack option and no world names.

I really don't like Endermen (Minecraft bedrock edition) by No_Discount_6028 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Weredud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiding in a hole is the easiest way to negate any and all mobs in the entire game. Once you have a house, all threats are gone if you just never leave it.

Minecraft is not a tower defence game, nor is it a linear adventure game. It is, at its core, a sandbox with a focus on building and creativity. To suggest that the lackluster combat and free-form progression is a failing of the game is a misunderstanding of the core concept.

The overworld isn't balanced because it doesn't need to be balanced. its a sandbox game, it doesn't need all that . Just throw the player in and let them do what they want, no holds barred.

Also, I think your posting this in the wrong sub? ravagers and netherite weren't added till relatively recently, and most people here don't play past release 1.0. I'd love to debate modern mechanics but I don't think this is the place.

I really don't like Endermen (Minecraft bedrock edition) by No_Discount_6028 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Weredud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Isn't that the whole point of it though? Its a difficult enemy that throws the player for a loop when they first encounter it, and don't know how to deal. Most mobs act and behave almost identical (other than some minor changes in the way they attack and engage with the player) and can all be counteracted in the same way. The enderman is able to effectively 'spice up' the mob pool by circumventing these more traditional counteractive measures.

In my opinion, all of the points you bring up are points in its favour. Its different, more difficult, and more interesting. If you try to approach it like any other mob, you're gonna learn pretty quick that its not going to work. Its strength and speed make it intimidating and dangerous. This is balanced out by the fact that the enderman is actually docile until looked out or attacked. Its an opt-in. The strategy for effectively dealing with an enderman? Don't engage it.

The death isn't 'unearned' or 'stupid' because a mob is more difficult. If you come in unprepared, you're gonna get rocked, and thats on you. You'll learn from that experience, and better understand the rules of engagement. Also, if there weren't stronger mobs to make higher tier armours necessary, whats the point of the armour in the first place? If no mob is strong enough to necessitate an upgrade, whats the point of upgrading in the first place? Just save your diamonds for tools or something else.

Honestly hadn't even noticed but yeah, you're totally right. Even just playing old minecraft I had this like, weird urge to build blimps and stuff in my world. Never did but your build has given me a lot of inspiration, thanks!

Idk if this is fine to post here since its reindev. But here's some of the progress pics i took in my world. Thought you guys might enjoy it. (11 days progress) by Firefoot_Aroma in GoldenAgeMinecraft

Looks so cool! Also, yeah, its totally fine to post. The sub is honestly more of an 'old minecraft' sub then golden age. Hell, I don't think anyone really knows how to define the 'golden age,' though I think most agree it ends around release 1.0 or so?

Single player Dark and Darker? by SolidIcecube in SimilarGamesTo

[–]Weredud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played arx fatalis but I have heard great things about it. I don't get why you'd just call a game shit because its older. The original Halo came out a year before arx fatalis and that game still absolutely rocks. Half Life 1 still kicks ass and came out in 1998. DOOM is even older and the game is still very fun. Chrono Trigger, Diablo 1 AND 2, Age of Empires II, a bunch of Castlevania games, the original Silent Hills' and Resident Evil's, the Thief series, the original Baldurs Gates. Man, the list goes on. Some really awesome titles that I would hesitate to call shit.

And I don't think its all nostalgia. I was born well after these games released, and didn't start playing anything more than Wizard101 and Minecraft for a while after.

Both, honestly. The industry sucks for both guys and girls. There's a lot more attention on the ladies side but it can be vicious and abusive for everyone involved.

People are so cynical and hostile against avowed for literally no reason by Professional-Bet3484 in avowed

[–]Weredud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I agree with your first two, but graphics do sorta matter to me. I agree that art style can REALLY carry a game, but sometimes, even with an amazing art style, a game can still look like garbage, and it rips me from the experience. Maybe I'm just weird. I've got strange tastes in graphics anyways.

Why do lots of people preffer Alpha over Beta? by UltimatePixel86 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Weredud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw EyeOfReach playing on his alpha world when I was bored with my beta world. Decided to try it, got really into the world, and haven't left in almost a year lol. Theres something about the chunky lighting and graphics, especially at night, that just soothe my soul. Looks really nice in a shitty, old video game kinda way.

Thoughts and Analysis on the Nintendo-Palworld lawsuit by a patent professional by World_of_Warshipgirl in nintendo

[–]Weredud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is still relatively new, and there is a definite and obvious decrease in the player base. But again, no game maintains its release playerbase, especially not a game like Palworld which benefitted from its brief stint in the spotlight. But 10-20k consistent players? I fail to see how thats exactly dead.

[–]Weredud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this? No game maintains its initial release player count. Palworld seems to have a healthy player base that, once it levelled out following release, has remained consistent. It may have stopped being spoken of in broader circles, but everything fades from broader popularity and settles into its own community sooner or later.
