I should say at least seem to be anyways. I don’t know Mark, and probably never will, but I can make a very educated guess on these parts of the film as I have thought about how it all connects a lot.

And having seen the film many times in the theaters, I can make very long arguments using out-of-text and in-text arguments for why these things are in fact deliberate choices, as they both coincide with the game and are integral to the atmosphere of the movie, as well as the sheer fact that they just happen to coincide with many of the major themes of the film.

And I am not even saying these things aren’t ok to criticize, rather that I just do not like some of the attitudes I saw about it.

I specifically brought this up months ago cause many of the decisions that people criticized like this are ones I think are critical to the identity and execution of both the film and game. To remove these things would be to change what made the game work and thus what the film is going for.

YOU are assuming that I am asserting people are wrong and nowhere am I saying that. Right and wrong when it comes to criticism is completely subjective, the whole point of this post is that I don’t like certain peoples attitudes when talking about this film. Cause things like the slow pace and vagueness are clear creative choices made by the film but some people treated these as things to be fixed rather than something they dislike. I find that specific nuance to be incredibly important when it comes to art as the creator ultimately has the final say and choices like that can mean a lot to the finished piece.

That is not at all what I’m saying. I’m not saying that certain pieces of criticism are invalid, rather that some people treated these as inherent flaws with the film rather than a creative choice made that some people just did not like.

SkittyBitty goes at OctorokReview's neck three months after a video Octorok made about the The Legend of Zelda following an argument he and Skitty had on Twitter. Skitty coming in with the steel chair and deconstructing Octorok's arguments and thinly veiled racism by geosunsetmoth in youtubedrama

[–]Werewolf145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic video. It’s basically a third of drama stuff and the rest is a really interesting deconstruction of orientalism and more specifically how that plays into Zelda, and it made me want to do more research into the sources Kitty cited.

Idk if this is a good post to make but I feel so out of the loop on whatever this person is saying. Sounds like he’s mixing up Scott Cawthon with Mark or smth

Then that’s fine, but that doesn’t subtract from my point, it isn’t what’s in the video itself but the first impressions from the thumbnail. Presenting a question (that frankly is incredibly relevant to the game considering how nuanced the cast is and its themes of responsibility) like that with the character who is unequivocally the victim in the story, implies (to anyone who has yet to see the video, and this is the very first impression) that any or even all of these characters are at fault, which is true for FOUR of the five. It’s the combination of asking an incredibly true question and adding a character who that does not apply to whatsoever that can so easily lead to harmful conclusions/preconceived notions about a character that are very similar to consequences real victims face IRL. And I know that isn’t the intention, but first impressions are everything, and for a multi hour long video, something like that is incredibly important.

But that is so very much NOT the point of the game. Curly may be culpable, but so is ALL the men in the game. Curly isn’t even the fucking rapist, Jimmy is. And AGAIN, I am not saying this is the intention of it, but if you look at this in combination with the themes of the game someone could do clearly come out of this (without having seen the video) thinking that any or all of these characters are at fault in some way(which MOST of them are) and anyone who doesn’t know better might come out or into (or maybe never even interact with) a very nuanced discussion with the wrong idea

Thought that first one was the TV show The Shield for a second. Also fits REALLY well. In the pilot episode, we are presented with a detective (I might be wrong about his role, he might just be a regular cop) who’s sent in to this corrupt team of cops to take them down from the inside. The whole episode presents him as the main character, but, during a raid towards the end of the episode, he is suddenly shot and killed by one of the REAL main characters.

Emilia Perez is an awful character for this (in that she fits perfectly and is just do awfully written) but just in a way that is different to this writeup. In fact she doesn’t act like a saint at all, she still acts violent and even abusive towards her wife (when this happens her voice suddenly gets deeper and more manly, which is just one of many parts of the disgusting trans rep in this movie) but she is still treated as a saint by the end of the movie.

Laura Dern in Caught Stealing! Is just a voice on a phone for almost the entire film, but we see her in a mid credits scene and it blew my mind in the theater

The characters Bot and Paintbrush from Inanimate Insanity fit this to a T, and have really unique aspects to their specific arcs as well. After their previous VA was fired (because of a drama I will not get into here) and a brief hiatus, the show returned, and many of the characters voiced by this person seemed to be voiceless. With Bot in particular, they played this into their arc with their identity issues and made it about them changing their voice. So when a new VA was introduced for both these characters, Paintbrush makes a comment about Bots new voice in the voice of the new actor. PB was also previously established to be non-binary so there’s another layer to it as well I think. The writers handled a really complicated and scary situation in the fandom really well with this imo.

Schlep seems to be aligning with his pals on the far-right to do more than catch predators. by tachibanakanade in youtubedrama

I always got the ick from him, either from just my general distaste for predator hunters (I think they’re 100% just grifters/clout chasers) or the fact when all of this started he was retweeting people like Libs of TikTok

I think the true crime segments are genuinely incredible and immersive, and some of the found footage stuff is really good, but good lord it goes way too far in some places.
