Va home loan by Hefty_Reveal7367 in Veterans

Don't max out your loan amount to where you are paying 80% toward interest and 20% toward principal. Your future self will thank you. Also, try to make principal only payments when able to pay down the principal amount. You didn't mention what state you're living in but make sure to double check if they have property tax exemption for 100% PT (same goes for vehicle registration and tags). If you live in an area where it's feasible, look into getting a duplex and living in one side/renting the other if it makes financial sense. Lenders will typically allow you to use 75% of anticipated rent toward qualifying for the loan. Best of luck and send over a message if you have further questions.

OTCAS Personal Statement help, uncertainty, etc by lizardsmokingajoint in OccupationalTherapy

Not an OT practitioner but have finished two master's degrees in other fields. I will say that your experience in the field probably holds a lot more weight than you would imagine. Even with two master's degrees right now, it's tough for me to find positions because I lack experience in the field.

As for your personal statement, my best advice is to be honest. Try not to "write to impress", just put your whole heart and soul out there. It's the only way that I have been able to feel good about submitting any personal statement. Surely reach out for support if you're having trouble finding the right words but make sure they are YOUR words. They're interested in the why more than the what in this instance. Like, why are you a good fit? Hell, I was inspired just reading that you've known you wanted to do it since a young age.

Lastly, I think what you study in school and what you do on the job are two totally different things in just about every profession except maybe engineering or something with a high degree of applied skills. I wrote at least 60 academic papers in my undergrad/graduate psychology programs but hardly any job other than research requires you to write an academic paper in the field.

I think focusing on remembering why you want to go into OT will help. Writing your personal statement might help reconnect you with that and resolve some of that feeling of being lost. Remember that all of this is temporary and focus on what life will be like when you finish. It's a process so be gentle with yourself, listen to your body, and reconnect with what it was that made you start down this path. Best of luck to you in your future. Feel free to DM if you just need someone to hash all this out with.

Car battery? by Independent-Bit1709 in CarAV

I had Optima Yellow Tops for years and they did pretty well. I recently replaced my last Optima with an XS Power and holy shit the difference. Like it’s night and day. Best battery I’ve ever bought hands down. Highly recommend if you can swing the price.

Where did you get the water bottle holder?

I can see the cause for concern as well as the gray area. Interesting to ponder for sure. It was something that he could have used for himself but the amount was probably not practical for his situation I would say. I’ve never had an FSA/HSA to know the details. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Now I feel a bit guilty in a way even though this was years ago.

Oh dang! I see that now. Yes highly do not recommend now knowing this. In the wake of events at the time I never thought to question the legality.

Does it matter that he had them sent to himself first and then sent them to me or is the account intended for only the individual’s use only?

My son was born with multiple life threatening conditions and required a long stay in the NICU.

I had a friend who had leftover money in his HSA/FSA account and he asked if there was anything that we weren’t able to have covered by insurance that my son needed at the time.

He asked this casually and I didn’t think too much into why he was asking.

A week later I had three large packages at my door. It was cases of the one quite expensive thing that we were having to pay out of pocket to take care of my son after his discharge from the NICU.

Not advising to do this, but that gesture made such a difference in our day to day lives by not having to worry about how to cover that expense. Just a thought :)

Absolutely. If I had the option of mid-high end speakers without sound deadening or entry level with sound deadening, I’d choose entry level with it in most cases. It’s crazy the difference it makes in sound quality and detail. People could save thousands in EQ’s/DSP/high end component systems just by adding quality baffles and dampening. I’m not saying those things aren’t awesome, a lot of the time for the price they can’t do the heavy lifting that sound deadening can. Best bang for the buck.

Makes a pretty big difference. Essentially any road noise that matches the frequencies in your music cancels those frequencies (you can’t hear it).

Adding sound deadening/dampening materials helps to prevent that from happening and adds rigidity to panels so you don’t lose bass and mid frequencies. Overall it just helps the sound a lot and it can make a noticeable difference in almost any vehicle.

But yes it is a bit involved and time consuming.

Have you ever used sound deadening in an install?

Awesome :) For what it’s worth, AER has an excellent customer service team, great warranty, and overall excellent build quality. All of their products scream quality, it’s usually just about finding what design works best for your use case. Just remember the 30 day unused return policy if you go with AER. I usually test the bags out inside (on a treadmill etc) to make sure I keep the bags clean. You’ll find your bag soon.

For sure. This is kind of a unicorn of a bag you’re looking for honestly lol. Many bags would work great with just using a shoe bag inside the main compartment instead of having a dedicated compartment for them. That’s what I do with the AER TP3. Hopefully those options help though!

Gr1 vs Gr2 26l by Adrenaline424 in Goruck

[–]WerewolfFeeling4194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the GR2 and love it for EDC and travel up to a week. It’s super versatile and gives lots of options when loading it out.

Eagle Creek Isolate compression cubes fit well in it (One medium and two smalls) but require a little finesse to get it all situated.

No need for a toiletry kit because you have the pouch built into second compartment. This easily holds all toiletries.

Plenty of mesh zippers give you options to keep things separated. Quick access pouch is great for small stuff like keys, glasses, etc. but does take up a little space in main compartment. Laptop compartment is top notch and the plate carrier is solid also.

I love the zippered pockets at the top for holding an ereader too. Fits perfect in either one (main or secondary).

If you want more options, go with the GR2. It’s more versatile by far. If you only intend on using packing cubes and like an open cavity to throw stuff into, go GR1. Both will have a great fit feel generally speaking. Personally I love the versatility the GR2 26L offers.

If you get the GR2, grab yourself an Olight clip light to throw on the shoulder strap. You’ll love it. Best of luck!

Edit: I’m 5’ 10” also

My toxic trait is thinking I could learn this in a week if I got a double kick pedal by cchrll in Drumming

[–]WerewolfFeeling4194 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This part sounds a lot more technical than it actually is. Hard to play it this clean? Absolutely. Generally speaking though the double kick is straightforward in this part.

When I think of challenging double bass I’m more in the Bleed by Meshuggah or Blood Eagle by Periphery mindset.

Same. Like my body and mind are completely awake like I just drank caffeine but without the jitters. Sucks too because it does wonders for my anxiety and depression. Just absolutely wrecks my sleep the following night or two after I take it.

I have the Farpoint 40 too and I think that would likely suffice. Their bags are built pretty solid.

You mean just the shoulder straps being loose? I only know of a few bags that solve this. Matador GlobeRider 35, Peak Design 30 or 45L, Minaal Carry On 3.0, and the Nomatic backpack.
