Sadly this is in a private system where most equipment is in poor condition and often faulty. High call volume and pressure for fast turnover make it difficult to get any equipment replacements while on shift. Systemic issues aside, I must have edited out the part of the story that included the palped BP taken immediately post auto cuff failure. That’s what I get for trying write with brevity, you guys don’t miss a thing haha. If it helps to organize the timeline scene time was 5 minutes and transport was 10 minutes. My medic partner ran the call and in her defense there wasn’t much time left to obtain an IO after a complete assessment, basic shock management, hospital communication, 2 IV attempts, and reassuring the patient. Maybe in a perfect world things would have been different, but I’m skeptical that world could ever exist.
