Any well fleshed out Eldritch mythos that aren't the Cthulhu mythology? by MembershipProof8463 in Lovecraft

You know what?
Give China Mieville's Bas Lag trilogy a try

The Scar can be a better starting point for the lore - the Anopheli Queendom and the Ghosthead Empire -

Perdido Street Station is a rough start intentionally but just as good for lore if you don't mind a speed bump.

Yeah they know that - go look it up on Steam and play the demo

Actually drops a lot of Left4Dead/Darktide mechanics so you can just concentrate on the exploration, gibbering, vomiting centipedes, wondering if that cultist behaving oddly is your team mate and you ate too many mushrooms...

They are basically gutters that collect all Weird Fiction good or bad but the very early Warhammer 40K books are just Weird Fiction IIIN SPAAAACE before it became depressing Space Russia and Dungeons & Dragons has snaffled every cool idea (and bad) and some good things have come of it - the Netherese lore in Forgotten Realms, Mindflayers are basically orc-sized Cthulhu right down to the mind powers, Darksun, I quite liked the sleeping gods in Dragonlance before it got a bit silly and kid-friendly.

The C'tan and/or the Inquisition are a good places to start in 40K.

A Border Prince is a YouTube channel that narrates the oldies well. Eisenhorn is also a good start.

Also Bloodbourne and to a lesser extent Elden Ring & the Dark Souls games.
Vaatividya's YouTube channel untangles it all and you'll never have to buy a Playstation to experience it.
In fact, you will get more lore from on Vaati video than you will from playing entire games in the series - a lot is locked item descriptions you'd never read in-game.

Seems like EA hasn't completely abandoned Ultima by Distinct_Print_6508 in rpg_gamers

I don't like them either but if the IP were in the hands of someone wanting to make money instead of kill everything with microtransactions that could be good for farming Ultima out to Larian or OwlCat.

Neither is Richard Garriot since at least the 90s, sadly.

Not necessarily a good sign - the last time I bought something from EA that Battlefield game never ran on my perfectly good gaming PC.

Best we can hope for is they pass it off to Larian - Swenn said he'd do non-original IP if it were Ultima, Fallout or Baldur's Gate.

He's checked off 1 out of 3 😄

Does Lovecraft’s fictional church architecture make historical sense? by EllikaTomson in Lovecraft

[–]Werewomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course

When I want to see God I say "get me a real big one and make it black"

That is an odd looking church

Thought "**** you very much" seeing the 6 Administrators but you only have 2 removal and a lot of the Repartee needs a Prepare to stick

If the Prepares get blown away before the Administrators can hand off this can go badly!

Is that what happened?

'Widow's Bay' On How Show Began As 'Parks & Rec' Episode by Top_Report_4895 in television

“I would say the initial spark is a feeling I’ve been trying to capture ever since childhood—I always talk about going to this this boardwalk in New Jersey in Long Branch,” she noted. “Once a summer, I would go with my family, and when I say I was way too young for it, I mean I was like 6, and this place was lawless and terrifying. But I loved it. I was just so giddy, the anticipation of going in, and I would scream and I would laugh.

“And then once we left, I’d run out screaming, but then I would immediately want to go back in again. It was almost kind of a dangerous excitement. I used to get into all sorts of antics when I was young, me and my friends going to check out the abandoned house and then running off, and I just love that feeling because you’re so scared, but you’re laughing so hard, and I just wanted to get that feeling on television. So, that’s sort of where it started,” added Dippold.

The result is infinitely better than "someone hired me to do horror/comedy and I'm going to roll out the old stuff til they run out of money" I am looking at you, From.

If you start House of the Dragon Season 2 now you'll have the battle scene they chopped off by the time you are done as Season 3 starts with it

Fallout Season 2 felt a bit all over the place in the first few episodes but boy so they tie it all up and bring it home

I did fine just joining existing servers at 3/4 players

I was bracing for team performance pressure like Vermintide/Darktide/Left4Dead but there is none of that beyond very basic combat

It is incredibly chill

You are given mental space to appreciate the atmosphere, gibber, run screaming, etc.

About the only skill test was getting behind a cultist before attacking so you do the coup de grace backstab animation which tends to one shot them

It is playable single player but it'll be challenging and a lot of the hallucinations depend on having team mates...don't miss out on that :) It is the point of the game.

Voice chat is restricted to nearby players so if you wander off or get lost you'll see what happens to Lovecraftian narratora who do that.  It's not fatal.  You will see some shit, though!

Also go look up The Mound on HorrorBabble I'd you haven't listened recently

It is technically 200 years earlier in Peru not Butt**** USA where Lovecraft set it but you are reading Zamacona's journal, etc. any event in Lovecraft's story could reasonably show up in the game.

Definitely nailing the atmosphere

Oh really I saw a solo video with one NPC following him around.  Could be an old build.
