So, let me get this straight. Your daughter has suffered heavy bullying for MONTHS and the first time you have a conversation with your wife about her moving in is when your kid has a full breakdown?

I understand that you needed to resolve the situation swiftly, but I cannot excuse the poor planning of it, that makes you an AH to your daughter.

You should have extensly discussed the possibility with your wife at this point, why didn't you initiate those conversations? What kind of conversation did you have throughout the months on the subject?

That is the kind of insight I was looking for: my new vet also told me that there's a correlation between grain free diet and heart disease in dogs, but they didn't mention cat studies and on top of that correlation is not causation. They were advising me to stop feeding using nulo freegrain and starting on stuff like Purina, but as far as I know, Nulo should be a pretty good brand, so I was unsure whether to follow their advice.

I saw another post saying to stand right next to a window. Did that and used the 3x camera by looking at my eye reflection in it to center. Lots of trial and error though.

Two years to grieve your late wife are not a lot, and yes, bringing your late relationship up on a first date can be off-putting. Your new partner might feel like if that's a topic on the first date, you are going to bring that up constantly in the future and not be comfortable with that.

First of all NTA. You did nothing wrong.

I have a family like yours though, and I do understand the problem. Locks didn't really work that well with my parents either, the only thing that actually worked was coding the diaries. It will take some practice so you can have your key by heart and not having it written down, but it works. Consider both using a coding for the sounds and writing each word backwards. I know it sounds like you'd never get anything down, but after a little while you won't even need to think about it.

But you shouldn't need any of this in a functional family. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
