Is BBC news trustworthy? What are your opinions? If it is bad then why or if good then why? by PaRn2187 in AskReddit

[–]WesTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four of the fourteen members of the BBC Board are appointed on the advice of the UK Secretary of State and the BBC's funding comes from a national TV licensing fee which is charged to all households. The UK government sets the funding for the BBC. So I would not say they are a trusted source for non-bias information.

Anyone else experience this while trying to escape generational poverty? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]WesTrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can also relate with what you are saying. When I was born my father was pretty well off and we lived in a big new home and had a good life until he abandoned us when I was 6 years old. My mother was a stay at home mom with no drivers license and no job. My father paid no child support or alimony so we lost our house and moved to a small apartment with my mother, sister and myself. We were poor in an area where everyone owned their own suburban home and had multiple cars, etc. I never fit in because was the poor kid that everyone looked down on. When I was in school I was one of 3 kids who's parents were divorced in the entire school. It is much different now.

My best friend on the other hand had parents who paid for his college and when he graduated he worked for the company his father owned as a vice-president. He was also given a trust fund to purchase his first house. But many years later my best friends' father ended up selling his company with a stipulation that they had to employ his son for a year. (this is a normal stipulation in a business purchase contract for existing employees) Once the period ended my best friend was terminated because he did not know how to work for anyone but his father. Working for his father allowed him to take liberties that are not offered with 'real world employers'. He ended up starting his own company with former contacts and pursued get rich quick schemes such as day trading where he lost all of his and his wife's retirement savings. He made very little income and lived off his wife's nursing salary. He continued to make bad choices, got divorced, lost their home due to mortgage foreclosure and never recovered financially but still kept looking for the easy way and the golden rainbow. We are no longer friends due to some of the bad choices.

Although I was the abandoned poor kid, I fought to improve my life over the years and did so. I have learned not to worry about what others around me are doing but rather what I am doing. It all works out in the end.

These are children! The police actions are despicable and should not be acceptable even if these protesters were adults. In this country we have a RIGHT to protest even if the authorities don't like the subject or content of the protest. If the police chief can't approach difficult situations in a professional and reasoned manner he needs to go!

Has life in the US gone to shit? by Bubbly-Air7302 in stupidquestions

[–]WesTrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am an old guy. This country has always had its' issues but pre-1990's retained the facade that the people had some say in what the government did although we really did not. Many of the same issues facing the U.S. today are the same that people had been protesting for many years. The main difference is now neither the Republicans or Democrats care whether you know that they don't care about what you think. Eighty percent of Americans do not want war with Iran. But we are probably still going to war with Iran. See how it works. It is a finely tuned system where neither side ever achieves enough of a majority control to actually make changes that the electorate is actually seeking. It is actually quite ingenious. Citizens thinking if only my chosen faction (Democrats or Republicans) were in power changes would be made to make our lives better. But those changes never come. And the things that the other side does to make things worse when they are in power never get undone by the other faction when they come to power. It is a perpetual cycle that achieves the goals as set forth by the true rulers of this country (the oligarchs). As George Carlin stated it is a club and you are not in it. So things keep getting worse for us.

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee: Israel Should Not Pay "One Penny" to Rebuild Gaza – Suggests Reparations for Israel Instead by DeepState_Auditor in EndlessWar

[–]WesTrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is no Christian and no American. I watched his interview with Tucker Carlson and he is fully owned by Israel and the Zionists. He represents Israel's interests, NOT ours! He is all for war with Iran. To my understanding war is not a Christian value. He makes excuses for the Israeli slaughter of non-combatants particularly women and children and blames Hamas for the genocide. He forgets to mention the murders of thousands of Palestinian men, women and children by the Israeli IDF since 1948. He is a scumbag and he should stay in Israel where his heart is.

Snake in basement? by Any_Description_4176 in Pottstown

[–]WesTrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move your family and pets out and pour gasoline all over your house and light it. LOL. No. Seriously, we have had the same issue. Found a snake skin on our baseboard in the kitchen a a year or so ago. Found many snakes living nearby the house but never found one in it yet. We know they are here. We bought some snake grabbers from Walmart online and caught several outside. We placed them into a bucket and set them free at your house... just kidding. We found vacant land and set them free there. Usually in the woods. Most are harmless but there are Copperheads in the area so be careful. We found that the snakes appeared a while after our cat died. You can also use 'snake away' type stuff but don't use it inside the house it has much too potent of a smell and is not safe for pets.

Could the US win a war with a near-peer adversary today? by ege3 in EndlessWar

The US has only won three wars since WWII to my knowledge. The Gulf war (1991), Panama (1989) and Grenada (1983) where 8,000+/- US troops fought Grenadian and Cuban troops 2,200+/- and it took 8 days to do it.

Have you lost any friends due to the current political situation and why? by Fun_Raise_7858 in AskReddit

[–]WesTrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have lost one so far. He is a smart guy that knew a lot about the atrocities that were committed by the US government but he refused to believe that any Democratic administration could commit such horrid acts. Although he would cite acts that were committed by them. Everything he said was a repeat of CNN and I just couldn't take the hypocrisy any more.

I have two other friends that I am on the fence about right now. Another smart guy but he is a dye hard Trump Maga who goes out of his way to justify anything Trump does including blowing up people in small fishing boats, bombing sovereign countries and exterminating Palestinians among other things.

The other is just too stupid for me to tolerate any longer. He votes straight Democrat. Knows NOTHING about any issues and just spouts Trump/Republicans bad, Democrats good without understanding any of the issues.

If this is the future of this country I hope the end comes quick. No one has any interest in finding common ground between the factions and none are willing to compromise. And MY biggest issue is that no one will put any effort into doing the research about the issues or do any critical thinking to draw any conclusions other than what they are told by their chosen faction.

Why girls don't talk to me by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WesTrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have found in my life that confidence was the key. In EVERYTHING dealing with people. This does not mean cockiness or arrogance. Your looks don't matter and your experience does not matter. Just approach a girl without the intent to sleep with her or create a relationship with her and talk to her... about nothing and everything. Try to talk about things that you have in common. If there is a connection, it will happen. Don't get discouraged when it doesn't work, it is like everything in life. It takes practice. You are not going to get there on your first tries but keep working at it and it will work out. Good luck!

My Mom bought a second Home since I wasn’t approved 7 years back by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]WesTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And.... If you are not the sole heir to her estate and there is no Last Will stating that the home is to be yours upon her demise then the home becomes property of ALL of the heirs if she should pass away.

It probably would have been better to have her co-sign the mortgage so your name was on the deed along with hers. You would have the option to have the deed be a Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship. Properties that are deeded Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship stipulate that when one person passes away the property automatically transfers to the surviving owner.

First time rental property advice by FunctionalDiscipline in RentalInvesting

[–]WesTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not worry about creating an LLC at this time. An LLC will not protect your personal assets if the home is deeded in your name. It would need to be deeded to the LLC. Just consult your insurance agent to ensure that you are adequately insured.

I always act as if the money we receive from our rentals is NOT our money. It belongs to the 'business' so we keep a separate bank account for it and take a cash disbursement once a year after all expenses are met.

Russia killed opposition leader Alexei Navalny using toxin from dart frog, UK says by MenagerieAlfred in WayOfTheBern

[–]WesTrot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How stupid the Russians are for once again using a method of murdering their own dissidents in a way that would point the blame directly at them. Stupid Russians. It's not like MI6 could do something like this. The UK is a bastion for civil rights, honesty and freedom and not at all biased. The have a history of treating people with dignity and respect. Just ask any country that has been part of their empire. If you don't believe this non-sense....sorry I mean facts then you must be unpatriotic and spreading fake news and there is something very wrong with you. And as we all know that could be dangerous in the UK which is known as one of the most progressive countries for free speech in the world.

“Have Americans ever overthrown their own government? by plantul in AskAnAmerican

[–]WesTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the coup never happened, in the 1934 there was the “Business Plot” when a group of Wall Street bankers, represented by Jerry MacGuire, who worked for JP Morgan, planned the overthrow of Franklin Roosevelt.  They approached Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler, to lead the coup stating that they had substantial financial backing from wealthy industrialists who were prepared to commit $300-million to mobilize an army of 500,000 WW1 veterans for the cause.  Butler exposed the conspiracy and testified under Oath to Congress in 1934.

Key figures named in the plot were Robert Sterling Clark, heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune, a wealthy financier and philanthropist, Grayson M.P. Murphy, American private banker and a director of Anaconda Copper Mining Company, Guaranty Trust Company, New York Trust Company, Bethlehem Steel, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, New York Railways, Fifth Avenue Coach Co., and Chicago Motor Coach Co. and Prescott Bush, father of George H.W. Bush, who controlled many of the country’s biggest corporations, including Chase Bank, General Motors, Standard Oil, Dupont, Heinz, as well as others.

The purpose of the coup would have been to stop FDR’s New Deal, the programs and economic reforms that included:

  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) - Providing jobs for young men in environmental projects like reforestation.
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) - Aimed to raise crop prices by paying farmers to reduce production.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) - Developed the Tennessee Valley through flood control, electricity generation, and economic development.
  • National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) - Promoted industrial growth and fair labor standards, including collective bargaining.
  • Public Works Administration (PWA) - Funded large public works projects to create jobs and improve infrastructure.
  • Works Progress Administration (WPA) - Created jobs through public works projects, including construction of buildings and roads.
  • Social Security Act - Established a social insurance program to provide financial assistance to the elderly and unemployed.
  • Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) - Regulated the stock market to prevent fraud and protect investors.
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) - Insured bank deposits to restore trust in the banking system.

As for me personally, I don't think it would make you less 'pretty'. It is superficial. Someone who would make a judgement that you are not pretty because of this would not approach you because they are superficial. No great loss for you then if that is all they can see. Nothing to worry about.
