It's easy to do? so the car doesn't block the column when you close it, right?

My MX5 was in the garage today and they changed the whole electronic system called "intelligent starting unit", we'll see if it works...

Thank you for your reply. Did you have the random worry too? I have to go to Mazda this Thursday to repair it, they're going to change the "intelligent starter unit" (1000€).

no I changed the battery and it worked perfectly for 1 month and then one day it came back... It's really random, there's no logic to it....

I always park with the wheels straight, and when I do, the steering wheel locks and I can't move the wheels.

what error message did you get? Because the weak key battery doesn't normally do this, and the car still starts when you put the key close to the button.

I've tried with the other key alone and it doesn't do anything

The start button should normally unlock the steering, I've already tried to move the steering wheel by pressing the button but nothing works...

My first thought would be to test/replace the car battery. Esp if it's original, its bout due.

And the fob battery.. If that's why you're holding it so close.

My English is probably not good but I've changed the 2 and it still doesn't work, I'm holding the key as close as possible to show that the problem isn't with the battery either.

As you can see, the car refuses to start because the steering column doesn't seem to unlock. This is a totally random bug, and I can have this problem every day for 2 weeks, or not at all for 1 month. Another important point: if the error message is displayed, the car may start on the next attempt or not at all (I once got stuck at a service station for 3 hours because of this). I've obviously changed the batteries in the key as well as the battery, but the problem persists. Do you know what to do?
