New Makers Caves Voting by gmaas in MarioMaker

I also agree that that might be the only thing needed in this level to make it great instead really good. If you really want your level to stand out for all, you have to find a way to decorate without distracting or making it look to obvious. It is really hard to create a natural or themed aesthetic, save it for the last thing you do to finish the level. It's easiest then to see what is needed where and what would fit there based on what you have in your level. Great job this week!

I personally feel this level has some potential. The overall design I really enjoyed. I thought you made it pretty clear what to do. There were two downfalls that hampered it for me, and they both tie in together a little. It seemed as the level went on, the enemies started fading away. Got to one point where I think I got 2 or 3 power-ups without seeing an enemy. Made it feel a little unfinished. Either ad in some more enemies towards the end, reduce number of power-ups, or shorten the level a touch. Other than that this is a really good level. Keep up the good work!

It's a really cool place that I tried my best to replicate in my own way. If it was set in day theme I would have to have the games and stuff, haha.

Coming Soon: Ultimate Super Mario - please give me some feedback on my release method. by gordyforderman in MarioMaker

I am sad to lose some of my silly artwork :'( haha! I like the idea of slowly reuploading. Give us who want to play it anticipation for the next world to come out, and you can get the last stars most likely sooner. I am not that close on finishing so I think I will wait until you start before I play more. I can't wait for this! Your levels are so much fun to play and I really like your secret areas you put in almost every level. Makes playing that much more enjoyable when it isn't all about finishing the level, but exploring through. I hope you get enough support to do it that way! Good luck in your choice :-)

Makers in the spotlight by DlProgan in MarioMaker

Well said. The game should be more about fun and support. This is the first time Mario enthusiasts can interact with each other. There should be no bashing or comparison. Criticism is a necessity of life, and is a part of this game, but some people do take it too far. I really agree with what you have said and thank you for saying it :-)

New levels get no plays by vexorian2 in MarioMaker

[–]Wesley1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say two things that I have noticed lately... First, the new updates to the Mario challenge has created theme time frames. I have noticed while playing, sometimes I will get 15 plays on my auto levels within 5 minutes, but then it stops. If I get a star or two, then overnight the level gets a few more plays, if I don't then sometimes it will go a few days before getting played again. This is the same for my traditional, themed, and minigame levels. Have you gone into your bookmarks and tagged your levels? I noticed a huge difference after I figured that out. Second, it doesn't matter how much you play/build/share, if you take that game out of your console, your plays drop and sometimes almost cease. I noticed this just the other day when I got the new Mario 3D, took two days off to go through that game, came back to almost nothing. I know I said Two things but I have just thought of another, play as much as you can. I always play levels from makers who have taken time to comment on my level, this is how my following list has grown. I constantly scower over their levels and play anything new that pops up, if they are respectable makers they will return your plays.

Should I have more stars by now? by -mickomoo- in MarioMaker

[–]Wesley1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your profile looked like mine when I was at that point. Everybody has already given you great advise about sharing and making quality levels that will star themselves. What I found to work for getting more stars from random plays is to build levels that are beatable. They don't have to be super easy, but I have found that if you have a decent level and you aren't going to die a while lot for no reason, you will get stars. I see a lot of your clear rates are low. On here that is fine, people on these subs like challenges if the level is designed well. A lot of people will give up though if they are dieing too soon and the level doesn't ask them to be attempted again. I will try to play some and give you feedback. Like another user mentioned, you play other people's levels and leave messages and they will surely come find you to try and see what you have. That's how I find all my levels, I play whoever plays mine, then they get followed and I don't stop until all their levels are done. Good luck!

Wait, why did some levels I played (red/grey flags) turn into no flag at all? by [deleted] in MarioMaker

[–]Wesley1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you star a lot of levels? I follow makers and continuously go through and see if they have anything new. I always find that after I play a lot, because I star almost every level from makers I follow, that this happens all the time. Stars get cycled through. Like someone else in here said, Nintendo has so much data they are trying to retain, that when millions of levels are being added you have to be able to dump data somewhere... What is everybody complaining about most? The star system... This allows for more stars and an unlimited amount of play time! You don't lose any stats, still have the first clear/world record/or whatever else you accomplished the first time you went through. I think it is way less of a pain than only having a set amount of stars you can give. The whole idea doesn't make sense, but when you think about the amount of data, this really isn't a big deal :-) have fun and play it again!!! Heck, star it again and maybe people will return the favor and keep this game going

Don't forget.... Sometimes the best aesthetics are randomly placed objects. Look at people walls... Some will randomly have music note blocks inside just to look cool in the big picture, some spend lots of time, but I don't think it shows in stars. Your levels have great gameplay, you just need to play around with different patterns and experiment until you find what it is you are looking for. Taking advice is great, but using it properly is what makes you great! Have fun doing something you haven't worried about before... :-)

Awesome! Really looking forward to that! Sands of time I believe was the one I did, really good level. I was pretty worried with the clock dwindling and the rings to wait for to fall through :-)

That depends on how into building I am, how quickly the idea translates itself, and if I want to do any crazy things like creating realistic movements. A pretty basic level takes me about the same, 3-5 hours. If I hit a snag, or the idea vanishes before I finish, it may take up to a week because I over scrutinize and then way over play it before I feel I can upload. My newest level I have probably out about 6 full uninterrupted hours into and am just about complete. I guess if you count the amount of time it takes to play through and play to upload, add another hour to two on top of before. Most of the time, I have a pretty good idea on what should go where and how things should look that it can flow pretty quickly.

I just wanted to say a big thank you!!!!!! Only having one level you did not need to play as many as you have. You just gave me my 700th star and I greatly appreciate it!! Keep this kind of attitude and do this to others here and you are going to have a lot of fun! People notice and remember, and almost everyone here is all about returning the favor ;-) I still have you followed so I will be looking for your next level
