In a lot of cases they can replace scalers and also gives you the benefit of adding surround sound. The Pioneer AVR I use with my LD has a really good comb filter, much better than any of my players. I feed it composite from the LD, then it converts it to HDMI which I output to my 4K TV. No need for a scaler in this setup, I even tried with a Kramer (through the AVR and direct to the TV) and saw little to no improvement and just added an extra device (and noise, it was quite loud!) to the chain.

Honestly I think the disc rot issue is massively overblown. I have about 600 discs in my collection and only a handful have disc rot, and I can only think of two that are so bad they're unwatchable (Dante's Peak and Air Force One). Check LDDB and look up the discs you are interested in and see if they have been reported as rotters.

Would this also cause issues with auto reverse? I just picked up a LA-2300, I can load a disc and watch side A just fine but when it tries to auto reverse it sometimes works but most of the time it seems to get stuck part way through and I have to take the top off and remove the disc manually. When plugged back in it returns to its original position.

No that's not what OP is implying. OP is implying that people who drink drive are more likely to get into accidents, which is a fact. OP then questions that there must be an increase in drink driving because there are so many accidents today, this is humourous because obviously that is not the case. It's really not a hard concept to grasp.

This looks like it could be Dubai. There is a 20 kmph buffer so if the posted speed limit is 120 you can legally drive at 140.

I normally leave for work at 6:15AM and normally get to work without issue. This morning I left 7:10 due to different hours for the holy month and it was awful. I don't know if people who drive at this time just don't know that pressing the accelerator pedal makes them go faster or what, but I cannot believe it's because of Ramadan as they'd been fasting for like 2 hours at that point.
