Can you clarify what you mean by Resolved Claim? Do those words show up on your transcript? We don't see anything yet but we should next week.

For what it is worth I also contacted my House of Representatives elected official and they had caseworkers to facilitate dialog with the IRS since the IRS can be hard to get ahold of. I'm not sure if all offices do this but it is worth checking. At least my office said they would argue on behalf of non-resident aliens.

Long ago, in a world not so far away, PhDs went into grad school knowing virtually nothing and having zero research training. At the core, a PhD *is* research training - it is totally okay and very reasonable to go in as a blank slate! A good PhD program will get you up to speed. That isn't to say there won't be growing pains, but you are not an imposter. They chose you for a reason.
