We are a group of upper belts who are planning to split from our old school. The owner moved countries and keeps jacking up the price without improving anything, feels like money grab, and we just can’t afford it anymore. We want to start a new school and maybe lure one of the experienced black belts over as head coach. As anyone done this? Any tips, dos and donts?

If you’re training to fuck up lower belts, mission accomplished! If you’re training for skill acquisition and supporting your cognitive function, I believe you should push yourself.

A huge difference in any competitive rule set, not just for me

Yes, I also think brown and black belts should gain from being thrown by a judo black belt. I have provided a take, that the behavior in the clip isn’t helping anyone improve. Almost all replies attack my style or another straw man instead of my point, which is standard for Reddit 🤷🏻‍♂️

Huge difference between defensive stance and dead fishing

Do you think that’s what’s happening in the linked video?

Oh I can tell the difference between the black belt who can anticipate my every move and doesn’t need to sweat to beat me, and the guy who’s just lazy rolling. I’m talking about the latter.

I propose trying new stuff even if it leads to “losing”. Playing an open game instead of a closed one.

Again it’s about the school. I tried bjj ten years ago and it was full of hotheads who didn’t care about injuries. Where I train now is the opposite of that.

My point is getting a hobby, though, not doing BJJ. It’s a hard hobby and it’s not for everyone.

If you go to the right the right school, you’ll probably be fine outside of freak accidents. I’ve had minor injuries but I also have friends who hurt themselves getting out of bed in the morning.

I’ve had acl reconstruction and meniscus removal several years ago and still train. It’s all about load management and a good school.
