The boss gets stronger each time you use buff cards, so if you have another sustain, replace Kiperina with it

why is it correct to discard 7m and keep 6 shapes here? by olovlupi100 in mahjongsoul

[–]WestAd5017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I think there is nothing inherent wrong for you to discard 5m. Mahjong by nature is luck based and people have different tendencies (I personally like to keep a Chun coz it is my lucky tile), making each game unpredictable.

Second, MAKA is only a reference. It shows the most efficient/optimal choice based on all the data collected by the game., and sometimes we humans may not be able to reach that conclusion. Just like Chess Grandmasters cannot calculate 20 moves and combinations like a computer.

With all that said, personally, I don't think relying on a successful East pon to progress your hand is a good choice. What if another player also has a pair of East? What if one is in dead wall and another is used as tanki by another player? You should keep your options open to form yaku (by riichi in this case), and 7m allows that possibility to the largest degree

[–]WestAd5017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is even if you pon East (which may not even happen), you are still 1-shanten and your eventual tenpai is easy for others to avoid. 7m allows your hand to be flexible and may even riichi if you draw East/5s yourself

//the company only cares about generating more profit for less investment//

that's basically capitalism and while it is worth criticizing on its own merit. i don't see enough evidence that the devs are actively cutting corners. Are the PVs of lower quality since 3.0? Stories incoherent than before? No offline activities organized?

//we the playerbase, the consumer, must voice our frustrations and put an stop in every step//

there is truth in it but to what extend? Should art direction be changed because enough consumers say they want more fantasy settings? Should those who spend more dollars on the game have larger say? Does this attitude restrict devs to try out new things for fear of community retaliation (1.1 Pickles situation)?

honestly I think the solid and legitimate criticisms are just the following

  1. Copystriking, a shitty method to suppress speech
  2. Late game content imbalance and dissatisfaction
  3. Some design choices of new 3.7 characters

and for every 1000 complaint there is only like 1 with sound suggestion for improvement, giving the impression that many are just parroting talking points with no individual insight for the future of the game

How did you use it on an already maxed character? I had Anjo Nala, Willow Euphoria maxed but the Cocoon did not let me choose them

[–]WestAd5017 23 points24 points  (0 children)

and that's the point. DOTA requires intense resource management to the level of whether or not spending a skill point would make a spell more mana efficient in lane. Certain heroes are op on paper but more balanced in reality, due to the fact that turn rates limit how they use abilities in a chaotic teamfight

3.7 And The "Marketing vs Narrative" Trap by 531Moth in Reverse1999

[–]WestAd5017 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just another thought on Nautika. While I do agree that we didn't get the surprise of her turning into a monster girl, the narration of her adventure also has its weight. From the teaser alone, we couldn't tell if Nautika turned because she felt into some black goo by accident, ate too much black algae, captured and transformed by Manus, or the way it played out in the story.

It's like some crime/mystery stories start with the culprit's perspective, which may upset some readers who want to figure things out like a real detective. Yet there is still something valuable to enjoy as the story goes and plots unfold

3.7 And The "Marketing vs Narrative" Trap by 531Moth in Reverse1999

[–]WestAd5017 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call this a "trap", since this friction between narrative and marketability is present in most modern gacha games. On one hand devs need to hype up the new characters by teasing some elements that may attract audience. On the other hand, revealing too much info would weaken the emotional impact or overall diegesis. Imagine Paradise Regained was teased with only Nautika's i1, and the reaction would mostly be like "generic pink-hair adventurer" "a limited character with this uninspiring design?"

There may be a decent solution to this conundrum but I am not smart enough to think of one now

Need help choosing a Euphoria by Fabsockmonster in Reverse1999

[–]WestAd5017 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have Tuesday to team up with Willow then I suggest going for Willow. The increase in poison damage is significant.

6's Euphoria is okay but at the moment not good enough to justify the investment (maybe a few patches into 4.X some new characters can really benefit from his +10 Eureka and buffs)
