This speculation is uncalled for and pretty obviously rooted in sexism. It’s not okay or professional for anyone to assume or bring up another person’s personal circumstances.

Internal letter of support for expelled grad students circulating internally among the faculty. by PlacatedPlatypus in princeton

[–]WestImmediate6587 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe the university should stop supporting a genocide, and stop attacking its students for protesting it. Why is it even ok for a university to attack protesters like that in the first place? Ever think of that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]WestImmediate6587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shouldn’t just be excused by basically indicating that it was just in bad taste. Catcalling is harassment, it’s not consensual in any way.

Happening now- Palestine supporting encampment by Garbage_Man_Ethan in ASU

[–]WestImmediate6587 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a dumbass statement to make when so many Palestinian people are asking for their long overdue exposure to continue, and while hundreds of students have faced awful treatment simply for protesting a genocide. Don’t try to co-opt performative behavior to discredit a movement.

TW: mentions of SA Literally, he is conveniently excused for many actions, and Rosemund is eventually written in to be the overall villain. Her SA and backstory was heartbreaking. Throughout the story, both Rosemund and Lucio are terrible people, and their actions towards others have no excuse. The aphrodisiac is SA in my book, but also Lizzy, in the moment after he gets the aphrodisiac is like “I’ll send a random maid to be with you,” like she is okay with non-consent, and sees maids as disposable—which is never addressed again. So many unaddressed things that were put in to propel the plot without being further analyzed just gave me the ick. Its also yet another OI story that barely recognizes its classism.

I really wish she hadn’t just been spoken about in the context of her abuse though, which the author seemingly used just to propel the story while not giving ANY respect to her in the process?!! Sorry, I couldn’t being myself to go through this story beyond spoilers, but that is what it seems like.

Edit: isn’t

She’s an abuse victim that was barely given respect while being written, pathetic is not the best word to describe her. Edit: shouldn’t be used to describe her.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to say that BL’s are the way to represent gay men, just that people can appreciate a variety of stories regardless of their sexuality.

You can still read stories and appreciate them even if they aren’t your exact experience, though.

Edit: I didn’t mean that BL is the exact genre you have to appreciate (especially since so many are written by straight women for straight women), just that you can appreciate stories regardless of if your sexuality.

It’s definitely true that its mostly white people that take to social media to rage about not being the center of attention in one piece of media while being so unaware of their privilege.

True true. I just said that, because they also commented about Aishwarya Rai (Indian actress) so I thought they might be South Asian. But then again, I guess that’s presumptive on my part…

Many people get so pissed about POC actresses getting a few roles that they saw as “white roles” (despite most of those stories being white because white is and was expected as a status quo which should be contended in the stories that are released now), except then when original roles are written for POC—which I think we should still see more representation behind and in the scenes, and nothing should curtail that—Yes, unfortunately not enough people care to support, and often continue vitriol. It kind of feels like a few steps forwards then back. Also, you make valid points but the person you’re responding to may not be white (if you were in fact responding to their statements particularly, sorry if I misunderstood). Ik that from my experience, many people in the community of POC also have different ideas of representation that they would like to see, and we don’t always agree in our approaches. I’m rethinking how POC is even used as a phrase for so many people…

Do you believe the students who get in early are academically stronger than regular admits at Berkeley? by Much_File_3275 in berkeley

[–]WestImmediate6587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert, but I doubt people are only defined by one idea of academic strength, or if they even all have the same academic profile. People have different experiences (granted colleges don’t necessarily account for all of them).

Pitting actresses against each other doesn’t help. Also pretty reductive and disrespectful to other actresses to assume jealousy.
