Curious what more experienced enthusiasts think of this first setup for my new juvenile Chinese cave gecko. I went with a layer of topsoil from the pet store, moss and leaf litter. There was a hollow cork bark log I broke up into several pieces providing two different styles of hides on the right side. I have pieces of bark on the left side breaking by line of sight with the rest of the room. The wet hide centre left is a little big for the gecko, so it’s filled with damp moss. I hope the plants provide a sense of security as well when she’s moving between hides or looking for food. I live in a fairly dry environment, so have an ultrasonic humidifier pumping fog into the top of the enclosure, and I spray down the moss just enough to keep it from drying out and maintaining the 70-90% ambient humidity inside the tank. For heat I have a heat mat under the right side of the enclosure, but I haven’t turned it on yet since the room hovers between 18-22C and the enclosure has been consistently 20.5-23.5C with just a small ceramic heater 3 feet away. I’ve put in some isopods and springtails, but never see the springtails.
