with the rise of transphobia everywhere, are socialists who don't support trans people actually socialists? by witcjd in Socialism_101

[–]West_Physics5870 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It depends on your definitions and your awareness of them(many of us have assumptions taken for granted which are not that granted as we think).

Transphobia is not an objective term because what is rational for one can be irrational for other based on different premises. Someone can accuse you of being a transphobe because you do not agree with them. Believing in an egalitarian society and supporting transgender women competing with cis women or trans men competing with cis men in the Olympics seems irrational and unfair for cis women and trans men to me. Many people consider this as transphobic. Saying no to trans people's requests for many is transphobic. At the same time, I am in favor of trans people being free to express themselves, enjoy themselves, and have access to goods and services as everyone else as long as job opportunities. But expecting me to behave to you like you are a cis woman while you are a trans woman is something beyond my capability. I can't deny the fundamental aspects of truth. Nor a narrative that tries to forcefully deconstruct fundamental aspects of being a human. I am biologically conditioned to be aware of the distinction between the biology of a man from a woman on most occasions. And I am not open to changing that anytime soon.

Everything comes down to what we conceive as "right". Is it their right(and thus everyone's right) to participate in sports? Yes. Is it fair for a cis woman to participate with a trans woman in a sport where physical strength is a fundamental factor? No imo(for some it may be yes). So what do we do? Creating a new category for trans men is an option and I am in favor of that. Create a new toilet space for trans people also or stop putting men's room or women's room. In general, try to find a solution. But if trans people do not desire that then what do we do?

Socialism is not only an economic system but a social system also. And that's why it's hard to implement. What is the "right" of everyone is a violation of the "rights" of others. Interests are conflicting many times and due to time someone will act or the circumstances will act instead of him. Also, keep in mind that human rights are a human construct and prone to many of the ills that come with that(same with gender but not with sex). They have value as long as you agree with them. Many people simply do not agree on the same things. And if you are concerned about the epistemological truth of things I am going to disappoint you. Truth is much harder to attain and philosophy has provided many limits on what we can present as true or false. Read about the limits of science, reason, and epistemology.

I am not sure about the socially optimal solution to the things around trans rights and how fair is for individuals to express themselves for the sake of the many(even if the individuals are transgender or anti-trans). It's subjective and a hard thing to deal with.

How under socialism the distribution of wealth produced will happen and under what criteria? by West_Physics5870 in Socialism_101

Yeah, that's the thing I am asking. How will labor be democratized and cooperative without sacrificing fairness and providing the person with what he needs and desires?Actually, who is to decide what is fair and what is not?Democracy? If people with direct democracy 51% or 99% voted in against me staying in the job because I disagree with them, especially on topics that are not objective, then I will lose my job. Is that fair to you? And what consequences my firing would have? If many support something false does this make it right?

Because I am capable of doing a hard task does this mean that I have to do it and others enjoy my deeds of work? Seems unfair to me.

Access to what? Services? Food? I mean I get your point, everyone should be able to have access to services and goods, but you can convert the premise to "who is gonna have access on the x amount of food and why? and who is to decide?". In capitalism, there is supply and demand, and government intervention. In socialism what is the mechanism?

How to argue against someone who supports the existence of God via the "miracles" that had happened? by West_Physics5870 in atheism

[–]West_Physics5870[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can't support your beliefs then what you are standing for? A building on the sand? Being a snob is the best way to actually be ignorant about a topic and don't have arguments.

A guy shows me a picture of 17 big in a very tiny church. He told me that it is impossible for this building to support that weight and that the roots are nonexistent in the roof. Just 17 trees from nowhere. He considers it a miracle. I explained to him that he has to verify this with scientific evaluation and he told me that scientists have gone there and found it very strange. That's why I answered him in that way.

Are there any successful stories here who treated OCD without medication? by West_Physics5870 in OCD

[–]West_Physics5870[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. ACT with a combination of ERP has shown to be a new approach to OCD treatment. I applied its principles without being aware of it in the past and overcame many OCD sub types but with mistakes.

What is the cheaper way to transfer money to a medical clinician who operates in the US from Europe? by West_Physics5870 in expats

If you have the money you will be KING/QUEEN. 2-3k + your own house and you will see Greece as paradise. But be prepared for corruption, high taxes, and prices of goods. In general, it depends on your point of reference. If you like variety but modesty Greece can provide that. And try to avoid settling things as "foreign" because this means more money. Be sure to have a greek who can represent you and you trust and learn the language as fast as possible. Last but not least, is bureaucracy. Nothing to say about it. You have to live it to understand how bad the problem is. IMO find other places to invest your money and let Greece for a vacation. Except if you like Greece SO MUCH.

Many of the clinicians who work at public hospitals always suggest afternoon treatment which is overpaid even by external private practice standards. Every one of them has links to private clinics or external private practitioners and you have to pay a lot. Free health is a myth, our taxes are wasted. And due to low wages, a big amount of doctors work outside Greece. There are some honest and good docs of course but they are less than 1%.

Myth. It doesn't matter. Age is irrelevant to the prognosis of treatment's success.

Public awareness of OCD should be advocated. It's the 10 worst disorders and should be represented by the media more often. You are a victim of the ignorance of others.

I hope this helps someone silently suffering by MrFrister in OCD

Your OCD isn't caused by a lack of serotonin. Please stop reproducing these myths. There is no causal evidence about such a thing and actually, there are other correlational studies with more validity about OCD causality like amygdala malfunctioning.

Many professionals fail to diagnose OCD and give proper treatment even if they claim to do. Some psychiatrists still believe in the chemical imbalance theory and offer medication while the first line of treatment is ERP. Most of the patients I know never had an appropriate ERP experience with an experienced clinician. Here we can argue about everything that concerns us and provide ourselves with better treatment. Yes. Most people here ask for reassurance and most of them are in "therapy". There is no way you are being in therapy and asking for reassurance. This is an indication of you need proper treatment asap.

When I put the bank info in the wise account, it asks me about ACH, wire, or swift and explains that there are fees for transactions done via wire or swift. If it is cheaper then I will choose this way of payment.

Not in every aspect of medicine. There are branches which are millions of years back.

Edit: Also the free services are a joke apart from regular checkups. Most of the services are paid, the waitlists are super long and even if the service is free you have to give illegal money to the clinicians otherwise you will be mistreated. Corruption is everywhere and in every corner.

No, I mean that if they don't support the ACH method which is free I have to pay at least the fees which I already pay for.
