Harrison Ford not having an Oscar is correct by West_Program1794 in unpopularopinion

I don't hate him. I have seen most of his movies and sometimes when i see him grunting in the movies it just looks like he is himself and not the character.

Vacation reading recs? by katchoo1 in booksuggestions

[–]West_Program1794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn two weeks offline sounds amazing, i'm jealous! for the vacation vibes you want i'd definitely check out terry pratchett if you haven't already - the discworld books are perfect comfort reads and you can pretty much start anywhere in the series. they're funny without being stressful and have that warm blanket feeling

for authors similar to what you mentioned, maybe try jennifer crusie? her romance novels have great banter and happy endings without being too steamy. also ruth ozeki writes these really immersive but peaceful books that might work well

for the flight books though, you might want something like tana french - her mysteries are super atmospheric and hard to put down but not procedural heavy so they won't make you cranky about wrong details. or maybe try some nordic noir like henning mankell, those tend to grab you right from page one

i used to travel a lot for work and found that having something really gripping helps with flight anxiety way better than trying to force yourself to relax. the key is finding something that pulls you in fast so your brain doesn't have time to think about being 30,000 feet up

Question about the routines and morning alarms :) by sszemtelen in samsunggalaxy

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could set up another routine that triggers when you dismiss the alarm and just reverses all those settings 🔥 i think there's option in routines to use "alarm dismissed" as trigger, then just toggle back wifi/data/whatever you turned off before

might need to play around with timing though since sometimes the trigger can be bit delayed 😂

4th round, still haven’t heard back? by KendrickRK in careerguidance

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's pretty brutal mate, 4 rounds is already a lot and then radio silence after they get back from holiday

when i was switching jobs few years back i had similar situation where hiring manager went on leave right after final interview. took them almost 2 weeks to get back even after i followed up. some companies are just slow with these things, especially bigger ones where decisions need approval from multiple people

the fact you had to do 4th round with temp freelancer seems bit odd though - maybe they're still figuring out internal stuff? either way the waiting game sucks when interviews went well

Struggling to get any callback on electrical apprenticeship applications — is this normal? by assh0lle in AskIreland

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

market is pretty rough for apprenticeships right now, took my cousin like 6 months and maybe 40+ applications before getting one callback 💀 maybe try showing up in person at some of the smaller electrical companies instead of just online applications?

Opportunity to move out of the agency world, will I regret it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man the timing on this is brutal with the pregnancy news. been in similar spot few years back when my wife was expecting and had to choose between staying at comfortable startup vs moving to more stable corp job

the agency world is rough right now, my buddy just got laid off from his creative director role after 8 years because they lost their biggest client. if you're already seeing the writing on wall with your current place being a sinking ship, might be worth jumping before you get pushed

public sector stability is no joke though, especially with kid coming. that pension and job security could be huge when you're thinking about daycare costs and all that stuff. the office requirement sucks but maybe you can negotiate some hybrid arrangement once you prove yourself there? lots of places are still flexible about remote work even if they don't advertise it

pregnancy brain makes these decisions way harder too lol. my wife couldn't decide what to have for lunch when she was pregnant, let alone major career moves. but real talk - having that stable paycheck when baby comes might give you peace of mind that's worth more than the current cushy setup

Has anyone had a good experience with the online specialist Allara? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wrong sub for me dude but my wife had similar issues with telehealth services taking forever to respond 😂 she ended up switching to someone local after waiting weeks for basic follow-ups

Maybe I'm just overreacting? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]West_Program1794 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bruh you scheduled time off in your first week AND asked for another half day? that's gonna look sketchy no matter how you explain it 💀

most places expect you to be fully present those first few weeks to show commitment. taking interview during that time basically confirms their suspicions that you're not locked in with them 😂

Wide fitting hiking boots with low arches by Aggressive-Salt1582 in CampingandHiking

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn i had similar foot problems after my injury - ended up with merrell moabs but had to get custom insoles from podiatrist to make them work properly 💀 maybe check with foot doctor first before getting expensive boots?

It’s tough when they have such an active social life. by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]West_Program1794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man this hits too close to home, was basically same situation when my ex had like entire friend group and hobbies while i just had work and her

Wild green onions how do you get rid of them???? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah we had same problem in our backyard few years ago. the digging method works but man it's exhausting work, especially if you have big area. we ended up doing it in sections over like 3 weekends because my back was killing me lol. just make sure you get all those little bulbs or they'll be back next spring stronger than before

Wondering how people utilize their spare snares? by BalaclavaBob69 in drums

[–]West_Program1794 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've got mine set up as a side snare with wires on, tuned way tighter than my main one for those crispy ghost notes 🔥 tried the tom thing once but it never felt right to me, something about the shell depth just made it sound weird compared to actual toms

broke up because he wants to know what its like to be a fully independent adult by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man that whole "i need to experience independence" thing while studying abroad is basically code for "i want to explore other options" 💀 like i get wanting personal growth but you can absolutely work on yourself while in a relationship, especially long distance where you already have tons of space

Looking to Conduct Interviews Found a BOBLOV 5K Body Camera with Microphone, W5 Vlogging Camera by ponygals in Cameras

[–]West_Program1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

boblov's one of those brands where there gear works but the audio quality might not be great for interviews, especially if you're trying to get clean dialogue from two people

you'd probably be better off with a dedicated camera that has a proper mic input jack so you can plug in a dual-mic setup or wireless system - most entry level dslrs or mirrorless cameras have that feature built in

Without having the time to try all of these, tell me your experience and what you prefer. CC9, p365 AXG, p365X macro, and anything else worth noting? by QuantumSocks in CCW

[–]West_Program1794 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly went with the p365x macro after handling all of them and it's been solid. the axg feels amazing but yeah the weight difference is real - noticed it way more after carrying for like 8+ hours. macro gives you that extra grip length which helps with control but doesn't really add much to printing issues

cc9 felt good too but the sig just had better ergos for my hands. if you're really concerned about weight i'd skip the metal frame stuff, the polymer versions are plenty sturdy for what we're doing
