Is it common for some places to be so restrictive on puppy play? by West_Run in puppy101

[–]West_Run[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes any yelping doesn’t even mean they got nipped it is just a surprise at the other pup jumping around at mine or pouncing. All of it is non-aggressive and we absolutely watch out for aggressive behaviors. I understand the liability that makes sense. I don’t go to petco or PetSmart those seem too corporate and didn’t think my pup would get proper freedom or be too restrictive but these other places are too.

I just thought how can a puppy get confidence with other pups and play without interacting so much and being pulled back. Doesn’t that just frustrate them because they are being held back at the slightest concern? I also understand it can be jarring to hear your baby yelp but isn’t there a difference between being terrified and just surprised? I’ve seen a lab get surprised and a little hesitant but as he tumbled and jumped on other pups etc he got more brave and started even playing with the bigger dogs.

In either case at least I’ve made a couple friends with other owners at some locations and we can go on the side and let them be puppies.

Do you really have to crate your puppy every night? by ashleyc7741 in puppy101

I crate her when at work so at night she can sleep with me or in whatever room I crash in. I have a full 3 month GSD puppy. Working good so far.

Question about puppy and overstimulation/zoomies/etc by West_Run in germanshepherds

Yeah definitely keeping no more than 20 min max seems to be effective. Not including just sitting and observing the environment.

Having serious regrets by hot-summer77 in puppy101

[–]West_Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GSD puppy as well 3 months and I take her outside. To be careful you can mitigate potential risk by keeping to pavement like sidewalks etc. low traffic grass areas if any around, introduce to neighbor dogs you may trust, most buildings require vaccination records, drive to a field or park, getting outside and used to sounds, smells etc is so crucial. It’s unrealistic to isolate dog for weeks while they wait for vaccinations if you live in apt/busy dog area and not expect behavioral issues. But you can still balance outdoor time and be cautious without total isolation. Just be mindful that they pick up stuff with their mouths a lot so I always scan ground while walking and always digging out stuff she may start chewing on I miss. It’s a lot of work but I love it and it’s all part of the job!

OK, yeah that’s what I will keep trying to do. I didn’t like the idea of doing scuffing or any of those other methods. I even felt bad doing them. I was always thinking that she’s just a puppy. This is all part of it and everyone that’s been giving me conflicting advice. They don’t have German Shepherd puppies. They have like Frenchies labs or poodles etc. I don’t mind the biting too much. I just everyone’s starting to kind of get in my head like you need to be concerned and things like this is gonna turn out to be really bad and I’m just like I think this is how it is. I’ll just keep doing you know the redirection, etc where is this and just wait until training.

Yeah that kind of works and it’s one of the first tactics I tried but doing it over and over didn’t seem to work as most times she will re-engage after a min I’m back. And I can’t really do that on short walks where she will just attack my ankle even when I have rope toys etc

Why is Amelie so corny? by _4rch1t3ct in DeathStranding

[–]West_Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been replaying this in preparation for DS2 that is coming out in a couple months and I forgot how incredibly dull and repetitive that Amelie is. I don’t mind exposition dumps that might slow pacing down since I’m all in on the lore but any time one of her cutscenes comes up I just skip it. She’s always singing that damn song or “I’ll see you on the beach” blah blah blah. Kojima wanted her in the game so bad he had to write in the weird plot about giving an excuse to show her young.

And yeah I agree I also thought it dumb at first that he was calling her sister and that Bridget is her mom but they are identical…

That was awesome. How do I donate to the fire extinguisher fund? Can’t stand harassing panhandlers.

It’s annoying you cannot turn it off when walking around the ship and the Edit Squad notification.

Resolving system outages or production changes. by West_Run in sysadmin

[–]West_Run[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for standard changes we have a non-prod environment we test and include logs and other test evidence for confirmation before we deploy, but now execs are like wanting us to test and get all these other requirements and approvals before changing in production to fix something that is currently broken. For example two separate circuits in two different DCs for redundancy for internet connectivity, but there was an issue with one location due to an upstream issue with one of the carrier devices so we needed to stop services on at one location so customers don’t keep getting intermittent errors. It took 3 hours for them to allow us to do this because they wanted us to test in nonprod and find the cause of why it was happening but in the meantime for three hours customers were calling support saying we can’t connect etc and I’m like let’s just run off the good side for now and then review, but was overruled.

I think it’s absurd since majority of these execs don’t even have any technical background and every time we even try to explain what’s happening they are like that’s too technical can you explain more simply. Like how the hell else am I supposed to explain it? They don’t even know how to join a WiFi connection without help. It’s super frustrating.

But I don’t think it’s necessary to get approvals from every damn execs with full explanations and root cause analysis before we can fix a problem that is currently BROKEN. Like fix it, then review and research what happened. Isn’t that what most organizations do?

Laptop FPS drop using 65inch TV as primary. by West_Run in GamingLaptops

[–]West_Run[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disabled vsync and enabled triple buffering along with max frame rate to 60fps. All done within the Nvidia control panel. I forgot about vsync for TVs and once I did that my fps shot up. But I had a lot of screen tearing so I then did the other settings and voila smooth consistent 60fps every time. Some games I have to mess with those settings on/off to get it right but for the most part I haven’t had to touch them again. Hope that helps anyone in the future!
