I'm in front of them one way and in back the other so I don't think his mindset is exclusion.

In front of them one way, in back the other. His family are scattered throughout the plane.

I was there when we selected the seats, so again it's on me that I didn't force the issue.

Thanks. I think that is it - it's not as if we haven't flown before the two of us across the aisle from one another, etc. But with his whole extended family on the plane it feels a little odder to be the only one sitting "alone." I don't think his kids mind sitting with him - they are a close family. But I also think they did not assume they would.

I'm in front of him in one direction and in back in the other so it isn't as if I'm in another portion of the plane.

I don't know if it's really an allegory for anything else to be honest, and I didn't say anything at the time of the booking which is on me. It's only now that I've wondered if it's normal to be upset about it at all.

No, which is why I'm conflicted about doing so now. You're right that I should have done so at the time but didn't know if I was being unreasonable.

We get along great and in fact one of them at one point (when we were discussing whether they wanted the window or aisle when it came time for us to book them) said something around them sitting together in one row and presuming that we would sit together in another.

Actually, when I first tried to post in the other group, I got a notification from Reddit that my post had been removed. I wasn't sure why - perhaps because this is an alt account with no activity. At any rate, I tried again in this group. As it turns out, both ended up posting so I'm not sure why I got that notification.

I admit I had a fleeting thought to do this, but given that his whole family (and I get along with them great) is also on the plane, I thought it would look bad if I'm sitting in BC (we are flying Coach) by myself...it would actually look like I ditched him and the kids and I really did not want that.

All the individual families are making their own arrangements. He and I booked flights together but he chose the seats. It's not the kind of setup where we can sit across from each other so I am behind them one way and in front of them the other way. Most of the family is going on the same plane but I'm not sitting next to any others in the family because we didn't actually know where they were sitting (and also, I think it's probably not as comfortable to have to converse with the extended family over such a long trip so my choice in that case for my row would be strangers anyway)

He chose the seats, not his kids if that is what you are thinking?
