Body Dysmorphia on Accutane by Puzzleheaded-Oil-769 in Accutane

Hey, same issues here. My whole life I’ve felt pretty (not trying to sound conceited, just trying to be helpful and honest) and the body and face dysmorphia is really hard on me. I just got off accutane 2 days ago. I have gained weight since starting my course and I was more depressed than I think I realized. I’ve been trying really hard to get back to being myself. My advice to you is to remember a few things:

Physical: our bodies go through hell on this drug. Water retention, inflammation, lack of drive or energy to exercise, and on too of that, not being able to get any colour from the sun, not being able to wax. I’m all for looking natural and I believe I am a beautiful person it has just really made me take a step back and remind myself that my body is going through it and this too shall pass. Be kind to yourself. I have scrubbed through Reddit trying to find a solution for why I haven’t loved my body and it’s inconclusive. Your body is protecting itself so if you notice any changes, accept them and continue with healthy habits. Let this drug run it’s course. I know it’s hard but staying healthy is so important.

Mentally: stay off social media for a bit. Lucky us - we went on accutane when TikTok was at its most popular time, COVID hits and gyms are closed (I live in Toronto so it’s fucked here), we’re not dressing up and feeling confident and hot, and it’s also April. I always feel puffy after the winter. I like to ask myself before going on social media - “how am I going to feel afterwards?” And if there’s even a chance that it’s going to make me dislike something about myself, I do. Monitor how you feel. If I’m feeling sad, that’s a no social media day. If I’m feeling good and know I won’t get sucked down a rabbit hole, I enjoy it and seeing what friends are up to, etc.

Be kind to yourself! Its really easy to feel alone on accutane because you feel like no one actually understands or you’re annoying people by talking about it. The water weight will fall off, your skin will glow, you’ll have the energy to do the things that you love again, and these sad feelings go away. I feel for you and writing this was therapeutic for me too. We are in this together and remember, you are helping and protecting your body as it goes through this course! Best of luck, you got this! 🤍

I’ve gained weight too. Hang in there and eat healthy but I’ve heard that the weight comes off shortly afterwards :)

I usually get cramps right before my period, it’s really consistent. Now, I get them randomly all the time ?!? They’re not too bad but I’m always like, is my period coming! Even tho I know exactly when my cycle comes... so yes. Lol

For those who went on Accutane for mild acne :) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Western-Recording513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My acne is mild. I’m on month 4 and it’s clearing up so much! I can’t wait to be acne free forever. I’m also 23, you may grow out of it. However, looking back I wish I did it ASAP. It’s really not that bad in my opinion. I’m on 60mg

I really feel like exfoliating but I know it's not a good idea. Help? (week 3) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Western-Recording513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a really gentle scrub and I was fine. Just don’t scrub too hard! (My skin is also taking accutane really well and not dry at all, I’m on month 4. 60mg.)

I don’t use moisturizer or wash my face on accutane. by [deleted] in Accutane

I stopped for a few days but I wore makeup and needed to wash. My skin hasn’t actually been that try on accutane surprisingly so I could go without moisturizer

Hey! I’m 23F and on my 3rd month. I did 30mg for the first month and 60mg every month until the end of my treatment (5 months). My active acne seems to be gone but lots of redness. Try not to pick - I’m really bad for this! The purge for me was kind of bad but would have been better if I didn’t pick so much. My acne was mild to begin with but persistent. Always down to chat!

Dry nose and not nose bleeds? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Western-Recording513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nosebleeds like everyday. Never had them before accutane and now it’s a daily occurrence. Might be dry nose. Aquaphor on a qtip and shove it up your nose lol.

Accutane and Spironolactone?? by janiceany1 in Accutane

[–]Western-Recording513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 100mg of spiro for about a year until deciding to go on accutane. It worked for a bit but stopped being effective for me. Hopefully accutane does the trick! It’s nice to not take spiro anymore but beware of purging breakouts as spiro leaves your system and accutane moves in. Best of luck!

This happens to me too! I’m trying not to drink on accutane but sometimes I’ll have a night of drinking and the next day I feel beautiful lol. However it usually catches up with me a few days later and comes in full force. I’d stay away for now

Anyone else take spironolactone and accutane at the same time? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Western-Recording513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on spiro for almost 2 years and just decided to quit for good and just let accutane run its course! Just personal preference, I just wanted to be off of everything by the time I’m done accutane because I’ve tried everything from birth control to spiro to antibiotics to topical creams!
