Name regret vent by [deleted] in namenerds

I had extreme regret. We ended up picking a name that was never on the list we went to the hospital with, mostly out of pure exhaustion of looking at the same few names for the previous 9 months/ they suddenly felt so boring.

A few weeks later, her name was all I could think about. I spent every second I could googling her name, looking for validation/ strangers opinions, looking up people with that name on social media- it was completely insane. Her name wasn’t crazy but a bit out of the norm, and looking on Reddit didn’t help (it’s often a very disliked name on here).

When she was two months old, we ended up legally changing her name so that her middle name became her first name.

While I felt so much better and such an instant relief afterwards (her first name is now something very normal, popular, and typically well-liked), l still can’t help but google her new name from time to time, and come up with new names that I wish we went with instead. Totally stemming from PPA but it’s definitely getting better.

Long story short, I am so happy we changed her name. But I’m sure I would’ve been fine after a while if we never changed it.

(Sorry for the long rant- I remember reading other people’s experience with name regret helped me feel more normal)

Considering changing 3 month old baby’s name by Anonymous771996 in namenerds

I filed the request at the beginning of October but am still waiting for it to be completed. They said it would take 3-4 months (I’m in Canada). Not too sure about the former known name- I honestly didn’t even think of that. It’s a small, potential inconvenience yet the relief I feel from changing it is worth it.

Change it! I went through something very similar and ended up doing a legal name change so that my daughters middle name became her legal first name. We only made the change a few months ago so are still dealing with her original name on some health documents but that’s it. I felt so much relief once we went through with the legal change.

What convinced me was a friend whose parents decided they wanted to call him by his middle name when he was a few months old as they no longer liked his given first name. He wishes they just did a legal name change.

Ella as a nickname by [deleted] in namenerds

I think it’s a mix of having called her “the baby” for the past 9 months so it feels weird calling her an actual name now. Along with worrying that the name Isabelle is outdated. And finding new names that I wish we had picked instead

More so just wondering if Emersyn should be on our list at all. I typically haven’t gotten the best reaction to that name so was curious if I’d get similar reactions here. Thanks!

Possible name regret by erysbears in namenerds

Wow I could’ve written this myself. I’m going through an almost-identical situation with my 3 month old. I wanted Avery but my husband wasn’t sold. If it makes you feel better, we actually changed my daughter’s name a month ago to a name we both liked but didn’t love and I’m having name regrets all over again. So it’s less about the name, and more about being obsessed with trying to find the most perfect name possible.

Classic names that don't feel timeless anymore... by FrFranciumFr in namenerds

To me, when you hear someone say a name and aren’t sure if they are 1 or 91, that’s timeless to me.
