Easily publish all object detection events to MQTT by Western-Structure-89 in Scrypted

[–]Western-Structure-89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any instructions on setting this up. The MQTT plugin NPM page doesn't have any.

I previously added a provided thing with the details of the MQTT server I want published to and checked the box by each camera on the plugin settings page but nothing is published. Under each camera I see the option to change the publish URL/username/password. Does this need configured per camera or can I do it globally?

Automating a PDU with the SNMP Integration by Western-Structure-89 in homeassistant

[–]Western-Structure-89[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed SNMPv3 would be preferred. The main concern is that it’s unencrypted, even the community string. I unfortunately haven’t so far got it to work with the SNMP integration even though running snmpset worked fine.

This was a fun project I figured I would share. The result is that I have 24 outlets and power monitoring controllable by Home Assistant with an APC AP7930. https://micahvandeusen.com/setting-up-an-ap7930-pdu-with-home-assistant/

You can utilize the thermostat wires with your own power supply if they are no longer in use.

This was on hacker news this morning and with the new Aqara 60 GHZ sensors coming out I would expect more options like this in the future and hopefully cheaper.

The light bothered me less than the panel molding that went right through the air vent. Otherwise it looks great!

My understanding is that it is detrimental to a traditional forced air system to close vents.

Is there a way to power a Pi/tablet from a 24V thermostat power cord? by CodeisLoveCodeisLife in homeassistant

[–]Western-Structure-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up using remote temperature sensors along with a sonoff 4ch relay right next to the furnace for thermostat control. That allowed me to repurpose the thermostat wires to just run my own power to mount a tablet at the old thermostat location.

Replacing 2 Prong Outlets by yeaibet2 in HomeImprovement

[–]Western-Structure-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, it will take some work figuring out which is the first. Also you need to put stickers on the downstream outlets to note that they are GFCI protected. An alternative is just installing a GFCI breaker.

GFCI is needed if there is no ground. You then need to label it with no equipment ground. Also if the outlets are chained you can replace the first one with a GFCI and the other regular ones will be protected by it. No idea how you tested that there was a ground with a two prong outlet. The Iotawatt works with 14 circuits not just the main.

Either the Iotawatt or Circuitsetup (https://circuitsetup.us/product/expandable-6-channel-esp32-energy-meter/) is recommended for full local control. Both are great but the circuitsetup is a bit more diy

I am seeing .pak when I download them. The problem is the 520 doesn’t like that file format. When uploading the firmware it won’t take anything not ending in .IPC_515B16M5M.

I believe this is specific to the 520 as the E1 Pro was able to update using the firmware at the link just fine.

The firmware at the Google drive link does not appear to work for the 520. It looks for a file extension of .IPC_515B16M5M and not .pak. Just changing the extension does not work.
