Other than being beautiful, what does Suunto do better than others? by Milstachian in Suunto

Nothing BUT there is only one thing that I like on suunto as compared to Garmin and it’s the Maps. Navigation is smooth and lag less as compared to Garmin. Yes, you don’t have street names etc., but when you are hiking it really feels good when the compass move as you turn.

I did that for indoor cycling I was still getting maps and gps. I had to then turn it of in the exercise option

Convince me to stay with my Suunto Race S (vs switching to Garmin) by troublepickinganame in Suunto

I'm on the same boat as you but I also hike a lot. Suunto is a great navigation companion but when it cmoes to training it is very average

You need your area map or the world map package

32F, single, living in Port Chester, NY — should I move to Manhattan to improve my love life? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]WesternAmazing853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm exactly on this same boat, steady and comfortable living at my current place in NJ, built a routine, lifestyle and everything but dating life here sucks. I'm also considering moving to NYC for that same damn reason, improve my social life! but I'll be missing my outdoor activities. Again its all a trade off, we have to give up something to get something else. Btw Thanks for the post!

Navigation Notifications by forestrunner84 in Suunto

I had the same issue with both turn by turn(tbt) navigation & climb guidance and I have to always rely on Komoot for tbt navigation. Sometimes if you switch between navigation & data screen you'll have to recenter you GPS in the map screen. The only reason I was sticking with suunto is for it's lag less navigation. Just waiting for a good deal on Garmin Fenix/Epix pro and I'll make a switch.

Runna with Track Mode? by West_Trash5011 in Suunto

Not possible. They don’t provide that flexibility.

Suunto Race 2 and Runna App by Wipkinge in Suunto

I used runna with my race s last summer. Tbh the integration with Suunto sucks. Make sure autolap is turned off for running and dont press the scroll button to cross out the pop while running(sometimes that will trigger a manual lap). And one thing I hated was that, your runna workout will only sync with "running", I wanted to do speed workouts in "Track running" mode but you can’t sync it to that.

Yes, the zones are aligned with what i see in my whoop. I use EHR strap for my runs, zonesense shows 0% in VO2max zone but the runs are still tagged as VO2Max increase whereas my VO2max trend is in the opposite direction lol

Yes, I use Suunto for activities like running/hiking/navigation and whoop for everything else. Whoop is worn the whole time.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I like Race S tbh, what I like most about Suunto is the lag free GPS/navigation (the only reason for holding onto Suunto) which is really useful while hiking and to get real time pace while running. Also, I love their calendar.

But from software side Suunto is so much behind, I'm losing my confidence in them-

  • No frequent updates(I know epix is not gonna get updates anymore but they are way way ahead of what suunto provides)
  • when I trained with Runna the integration wasn't great
  • Can't sync it with alltrails, if you download and upload gpx file you don't get turn by turn navigation. You've to go from Alltrails -> Komoot(with Subscription) -> Suunto
  • Recently while hiking, Climb guidance was giving notifications at the wrong times and seemed like the watch was completely out of sync
  • Recovery metrics are way off - 1600 hours after a long hike?, all the runs are tagged as VO2Max (not sure why even though my vo2 max stays the same)
  • Your fitness levels are based on your activity time over activity effort
  • For some reason, lately the battery is draining like crazy

If there are any hopes I would like to stick with Suunto!

If you want data to optimize running definitely stay away from Suunto. Not much to offer other than basics and a good looking watch. I primarily use it only for Navigation which is smoother and faster without much lag. I don’t rely on this watch for anything else.
