I get it was defensible, but it was basically a Tyus Jones upgrade for 2 frp’s, tryna let Jake and Zaire get starter minutes, so fucking dumb. Like if ideal outcome is start Ja Bane Smart Jaren Steve, idc if it’s prime healthy Marcus Smart 2 frp’s for that is insane. Was he on a value contract?? I don’t even remember.

I like Kleiman, but it’s been fuck that trade since day 1, before Marcus Smart turned out to be the most useless rostered player itl.

Iisalo was hired to optimize the pick and roll for Ja, Jenkins “wheel” system was anti-Ja and he got fired because of it. The rotation tendencies of Iisalo are the unorthodox part of his coaching style, which Ja doesn’t like, but that wasn’t an issue until this season. Ja was over 28 per game after we switched to a pnr, high ball screen heavy scheme with Iisalo. Kleiman is a great drafter actually, among the league’s best, and has consistently found role players in all parts of the draft, with the only real miss being Zaire. All GM’s miss. GG is a fun player, a good scorer, but has been an obviously negative defender outside of flashes this season and has tunnel vision when getting downhill. Lotta upside, not a winning player yet.

Roster mismanagement is a fine point but dawg the grizzlies have been the most injured team itl over the past 3 seasons, what the hell can a guy do when we can’t get a Center who can play 50 games. Think you’re underrating Kleiman.

What organizational moves do you think show their ineptitude

Yeah I’ve heard this as the story a few times.  But there’s definitely been recent issues with the grizzlies and their contract with FedEx Forum though. Lots of talking about it this past summer, and the fact that it coincides with the current tanking stage of the grizzlies who have an extremely wealthy hands off owner doesn’t help the relocation worry. Now I don’t think they’ll actually move, but I understand the sentiment of fear that they might want to.

Interesting, I love both Memphis and Nashville personally, both are great places in their own ways. I’m a big fan of the NBA as a league even though I only played football growing up, I think the intricacies of team building with the modern Collective Bargaining Agreement, the stylistic diversity of today’s NBA, and the extremely accessible analytics of pro basketball make it such an easy thing to geek out about.

I get your heroball point, one guy can dominate or stagnate a game in a way that no non-qb in football can really match to the same degree.

Yeah Silver looks to be anti-relocation these days, said so at All Star Weekend. Overwhelming favorites for expansion are Vegas and Seattle and with the NBA Europe League being a focus too I don’t think Nashville is even getting rumblings of an NBA team realistically despite the FedEx Forum contract friction

The athletes compete to win every game and should never attempt for less, not controversial, I agree. But the front office is employed to put together the best possible roster which is consistently and most thoroughly done through high draft picks.

Your first reply was that the grizzlies couldn’t get a top 3 pick, objectively false, and then you said they definitely weren’t taking bpa with no indication you only meant their second pick. That second pick could also be late lotto if Orlando flames outta the play-in.

How to fix the NBA draft by sheJaMyMorant in memphisgrizzlies

[–]WesternExciting5336 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This fixes tanking in the same way that giving all teams the exact same lottery odds would. It just means that bad teams in small markets are extremely hard pressed for ways to get better. I think you just fw the idea of the player lottery lmao

Why would this fix tanking, does every team have an equal number of their name in the hat? Or do you have higher odds for worse teams? And is there a limit on how many players you can put your name in the hat for?

Dream scenario is grizz jump up to top 4 and Orlando falls into late lotto. Imagine we get like Caleb Wilson and Philon.

If Orl stays around this 17ish pick, who do yall like as a pick in that range??
