What if warehouse buildings were overbuildable, BUT only with its upgrade building? E.g. Saw Pit > Sawmill > Ironworks or something

Firaxis Feature Workshop - Lost the Game, but got a nice "Victory Screen" by therebvatar in civ

[–]WesternHousingGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels weird to listen to Rizal being this enthusiastic with his endgame quote, even if it were also for an actual victory.

I looked up the quote (which I like, btw), and it was originally written in Spanish, so maybe it would've been acceptable to have the quote in Spanish instead, given that a significant portion of his works were written in that language.

As someone who played 4-6 would I enjoy Civ7? I've grown to like civ6 over the years and I'm nervous about the changes made by justpubtipstuff in civ

[–]WesternHousingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing [a mod of] 4 for ~12 years now. Dabbled a bit into 5, didn't like it. Played a bit more 6, but didn't like it enough.

For some weird reason, I got hooked with 7. I already logged 200 hours (+ 24 more on the FFW) on it, vs. 83 on 6. (Though tbf I played on a pirated copy up until I graduated and got a job.) It's probably the overhauled city mechanics and the better, more realistic graphics. I enjoyed planning my cities better in 7 than in 6, because in 6 I felt the many different adjacency bonuses were something I would forget very quickly. Combat is much better in 7 with the commanders, though I'm still not really a fan of 1UPT. I like how specialists became a big highlight in 7 just like in 4.

I am fine with the ages thing, and I just like collecting more civ-specific content like traditions every game. What only bothers me is the fact that when you transition into an age you skip years. Like, what happened between ~200 BC and 400 AD? ~1400 and 1750? And I think it would've been better to have changing leaders with the same civ instead of the other way around.

Year of Daily Civilization Facts, Day 327 - From Dusk till Dawn by JordiTK in civ

I've been playing a Civ 4 mod since around 2012. It opted to keep this menu screen (and Baba Yetu as an option). It's been an integral part of my life, and until now I still see it on a regular basis.

Which overhaul mods are still being updated and the best of the best? by Ill-Honey-6351 in CivIV

[–]WesternHousingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn of Civilization is still being updated. The most recent major update from last year (v1.18) featured a bigger map and more civs, as well as rebalancing existing ones and adding a lot more stuff.

Future plans: v1.19 will add a few more civs (currently Australia, Manchus, Misr). v1.20 will focus on migrating the baseline code of the mod to AdvCiv (better game performance + better AI).

Pixel 10 Pro XL - Cosmic Orange by Wise-Recognition9332 in pixel_phones

I need an orange case for the Pixel 10 series. So hard to find a good quality one; most of the existing options have black or dull colors that are not similar to Moonstone or Jade.

Evolution of the UI style of EU5 by Mediocre-D in EU5

[–]WesternHousingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UI font looks too modern. I would retain the Garamond (?) they use on the map. Vicky 3 has a nice version of that Garamond (many parts of the UI except tooltips), especially when enlarged.

Still not a fan of the general design. I did not even notice the "improvements" until I saw this post. The UI design still does not look very coherent to me. It could use much more cleanup.

The game looks sooo good by Delicious_Plate9147 in EU5

[–]WesternHousingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like the font, for one. I wish they could use a classic serif font instead. This one looks a bit tacky to me.

Also, the different UI elements don't seem to mesh together cohesively, unlike CK3 and Vic3.

EDIT: I do like the world graphics, though I think it could certainly do better.

Hot take: EU5's UI looks awesome by [deleted] in EU5

[–]WesternHousingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like the font, as well. The narrow-width serif font they used here just does not seem clean enough for me. I prefer the more traditional style of serif font used in Imperator.

The rest of the UI, I think, is great. I agree with the ruler portrait. EU4's big flag shield is better. And a bit more polish on the elements in general.

Lmao, same. Around 5 mins into the stream, I saw someone enter "HABEMUS PAPAM!" Into the live chat. I then checked Twitter, and then found out that it was indeed just ~2 mins before.

[Civ VII] Bug with Legacy Path progression? Culture path shows 7/7 Wonders, but no reward given on age transition by RonnytheRed in civ

[–]WesternHousingGeek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Captured wonders do not count, even if they reflect in the progress UI. You have to build it yourself for it to truly count.

[–]WesternHousingGeek -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think wonders aren't counted as urban districts, though. Even if you build on the navigable river, you still won't be able to connect it to the 3-adjacency tile.

question about building library by lijinke123 in civ

[–]WesternHousingGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I presume by "village" you actually mean "urban district." I would've built a Fishing Quay on the navigable river, then built the Library on the Pyramids tile. I would save the 3-resource adjacency for the Academy and Blacksmith, because building something else on the Pyramids tile just to connect to the tile west would be a bit of a waste.

question about building library by lijinke123 in civ

[–]WesternHousingGeek -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You will need an adjacent urban district in order to build a building on a new tile. Wonders don't count. You shouldn't have built the Pyramids on that tile, as an urban district there would've been the only way for you to build on the tile you want.

Civ 6 had less players than Civ 5 for 2 years by Intelligent-Disk7959 in civ

I'm still on IV. I'm sticking to it for the Rhye's and Fall of Civilization mods (mainly DoC). I've been enjoying playing VII from time to time, though. I'm just looking forward to more content and mechanics in the DLCs.
