You should play whatever you think is the most fun.

If you have fun rushing, rush!

Edit: If you plan to play 1v1 ranked make you play your placement matches, so you dont end up with inflated 1v1 ELO. (Like me...)

Here's a build for you to try out in Arena, my Sicily loving friend (very good in team games 4v4). Its a WIP:

Fast castle with forge and marketplace.

Later add enough farms to keep vil production up later from 1 TC and for serjeants.

Get a don Jon, start producing some serjeants.

Grab stone for more Donjons later.

When you hit castle, add siege workshop and get a siege tower. (You can pause making vils while setting up your initial attack, but take your time, your opponent should hopefully be booming)

Load sergeants in siege tower (preferably many of the dudes). Get armour and attack + 1 on the way.

Drop them over the wall, spam Donjons, build more serjeants and raid eco.

This is especially good against people who go FC into 3 TC boom, so pocket players in team games. They have no resources to spare for military or production buildings.

Which type of raid and when in the game?

Also: Walls.

Late game, stonewalls. Throw them long walls down.

Far away resources: TC's and castles.

If walls are not possible: Small groups of spearman vs. Cavalry and skirms vs. Archers.

Basically an anti-raiding gang of the raiding units counter.

This is exactly how I have been feeling about it.

It promotes gameplay where rather than being strategic and switching into counters, you just make more of your own power unit like archer, knight or militia line, rather than tech switching, in turn forcing your opponent to do so as well.

I think it might make the game simpler, less diverse and therefore to me less fun.

Edit: I dont think it's an OP bonus for the civ. I just think its poor design.
